Tears for Terri

I know that this is going to anger some of you,but I had to write it. Tonight the words for another poem came into my head. Given the current status of things, I felt the need to write it.

Tears for Terri.

Once a man named Michael met a woman named Terri, The two hit it off, and decided to marry.

But Michael was not a nice man, and he treated Terri badly,

With demaning words, and actions, which he dispensed quite madly.

Then one day in '90, at her home, Terri suddenly collapsed, and she "fell",

And began 15 years of a living hell.

Her husband moved on, he soon found another,

Who could satisfy him, and become his new lover.

While Terri lie ill, in a hospital bed,

Injured, unable to speak, but certainly, not "brain dead".

So, Michael decided to end Terri's life,

Saying "she is suffering and going through way too much strife".

"She would be better if it was over, and she painlesly passed,

And then, she would be without pain, and at peace at last".

So Michael hired a Lawyer, to get the deed done,

While Terri had representation, from no one.

The judges agreed, and Michaels doctors did too,

And the Florida Judicial branch decided to rule.

"Terri would not want to be this way", Michael and the courts stated together,

So let's starve her, after all, in the end, it will be for the better".

Now, Terri lies dying, while Michael plays around,

Without a bit of remorse, for his wife, in him to be found.

He seems to have forgotten this woman, he once decided to marry,

Where, oh where, are his Tears for Terri?

Why is Michael not with her, by her side, adding comfort and care,

Easing her pain, and letting her know, "that for her, he is there"?

No, Michael is not with his wife, as she suffers now,

He is with another, his illegitamate lover, and forgotten Terri somehow.

And the courts, where is their compassion,

Why are they killing Terri, in such a cruel fashion?

And others, they think Terri is already dead,

And some really sick things are going through their heads.

"That woman is brain dead" ,some ask,"why is Bush wasting his time,

trying to save her life"?, Beacuse, you see, This is a huge crime!

Today, it is Terri, Tomorrow, who knows who,

After all, Hitler did not start,by killing just Jews.

Now, no one is safe, once this awful precedent is allowed to take place,

And anyone may face Terri's fate, if another decides they want that to be the case.

And, as millions live their lives tomorrow, they will probably eat, drink, and be merry,

BUT WHERE, OH WHERE, ARE THEIR TEARS, THEIR TEARS FOR TERRI????

Very good. Obviously the case has moved you. We all express our feelings in different ways. Nothing there to anger anyone - but I would have slipped in a reference about Mikey S. doin' it for 'da $$$$.

Why would your true expression of emotion about this in poetry form anger anyone?

Well, in January, I wrote a poem here called "America I miss you", stating how I missed the kind of America I grew up with, and such, and I was called a whiner. SO, I just figured the same people would not like this one, or say i was being too hard of Michael, to judgmental, insensitive, and so on.

Oh, geez, everyone's a critic...but I've learned on FR, you'd better get a thick skin fast, but yet writing poetry means that you reach deep inside yourself, exposing yourself and your emotions through writing.

Well done. Your heart is in the right place. And your talent is evident.

Yes, where are their tears for Terri? They never seem to run out of vitriol for her, but they can never gather a single tear on her behalf.
