A local television legend is being remembered Sunday.

Gus Bernier, better known as "Uncle Gus," is one of the most famous and best known names in WMUR-TV history.

Bernier passed away at his home in Hawaii Saturday, leaving behind a legacy many still cherish.

In 1959, Bernier started what would become a legendary children's television show in new Hampshire called "The Uncle Gus Show."

Bernier, who was sometimes weatherman and sometimes a newsman, was asked to host a cartoon segment that kids loved and was a staple in the 60s and 70s, capturing the imaginations of children with simple games.

Memorial and funeral services will take place this week in Hawaii.

Sad news for any of us who grew up in or around the formerly-red state of New Hampshire... Any one else out there remember getting "bonked" on the head after the state capitals quiz?
