Remember Buck from "Married . . . With Children"? He was a Briard. They're gorgeous dogs, when they're in show shape (which Buck wasn't, being a Bundy and all).

Briard:

Origins:

France: Best known of the French sheepdogs, the Briard is reputed to have come to Europe with Asian invaders in the Middle Ages. Saw duty as an ammunition carrier and Red Cross service dog during WWI.

Personality:

The Briard is a farm worker by nature and lives to herd. They are kind but with a strong protective instinct. Sensitive, playful and obedient but with definite minds of their own. They need a lot of entertainment and activity to be happy and are not the sort you can pat on the head and ignore the rest of the day.
