My best friend had one and it would always jump on me.

A friend of mine had a very friendly (when not in guard mode) German Shephard. I made the mistake of sitting out, and ended up with an 80 pound lapdog which knocked my hat off and then tried to lick me to death.

I never even heard of them. Sensible and very devoted to its family. An owner in Michigan credits her well-being to her dog, after he twice saved her, once legitimately and more than once "illegitimately."

Now that's a cool dog. Looks like a Golden Retriever.

The truth is - apparently - they are basically a German dog.

Poodles are basically sporting dogs, but amazingly perhaps they were "dumbed down" so that the AKC has had them in the "Non-Sporting" group for ages, if not always.

Not that Poodles are dumb, just that apparently no1 uses them for what they were meant.

And the fact that they ARE smart should indicate they are, indeed, German dogs. ;-) (I've yet to know of a dumb German dog!!)
