We pony horses all the time here. The trick is to bring the horse you are ponying up very close - so it's head is at your knee. Dally around the saddle horn DO NOT TIE and only give them enough lead line length to stay right by you and at your knee. A pair of spurs help if the horse you are riding is used to spurs - just to remind them they are working, not playing :)

Thanks for the info. I'll snub Winnie up a little closer tomorrow. I was leaving her on a long lead rope, hoping she would stay clear of Tuffy. I did exactly the opposite of what I was supposed to do!
