Make him pull them at a walk too. Blade wants to canter up them, but I pull him down and make him either walk or rack up them. If he walks, he can't just dawg walk either, he's got to keep some spring in his step. It seems to be working, he's getting built up fairly well for a non-quarter horse.
I've always made mine walk up hills. At CTR's you can get marked off for letting them go faster then a walk up and incline. Saftey reasons.

Well, I've cleaned stalls, raked the front where we want to seed some more, and I'm about to go out and spread horse poo. I'm wearing shoes that I always thought had such high arches that they felt funny. Maybe that's what I need.
