This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
That sounds miserable. I can't tell yet what our day will be like - haze around the moon right now so I'm guessing it's going to be overcast for awhile at least.
Well I can't ride this morning either. I don't have a horse! My BIL here visiting and my husband wants to borrow Sarah Lee. He's going to see how Okie does.
Good morning!
So are you making cavelleti to do this physical routine? I was thinking about your vets advice, and I think walking over caveletti... or logs for that matter, would be good because they have to lift the hind leg high, and doing that repeatedly might help to limber up those tendons. I am not sure what your vet said, but I think it'd be important to enforce they only walk over it, I don't think it would be as useful if he is the type to want to hop his back end over. But 3-4 of them in a row, within a stride or two along one arena wall... with a rest in between but repeated again several times, is actually a pretty good workout. Not because it's physically hard, but because it's using a new muscle group.
Aren't Jet (choctawsquaw) and Truly (FrogInABlender) due about now?
Thanks for your suggestions with notebooks, just got on here. I'm not a mac person. Worked with them for years and not too impressed. We have 2 Dell pcs right now and I know it would be easier to stick with the same systems. I just am so confused which notebook to get as there are so many out there!
It is so windy here that all the grown up horses are bucking, rearing and tearing up dirt up and down the fields, Whilst the foals are laying down sleeping! LOL
At least it's not raining! We do have puddles though and Misty churned up a shower of mud for me when I fed her this morning. So kind of her, I had to go shower again! LOL
It' been windy here too. I was kind of leary of my BIL riding a horse that's used to me but you can't tell um anything. They're MEN! :')
That is exactly what my vet said doing cavalettis would do. You are forcing the horse to lift that leg, rather then swing it out to avoid bending it.
But one difference in what you are saying vs. what she said. She said we need to "tightening" the ligement and build the muscles. The reason it is locking is the ligaments have slack in them and the muscles are not strong enough to hold the patella (knee cap) in place.
That is why she said if the exceriseing doesn't work she would then try blistering the ligement to create scar tissue to tighten it up.
Last resort is clipping it, which she said she does not like to do.
What do you think??? Sound right or have you heard they need to be "loosened up"??
Becky
Men = different species! LOL
They didn't ride though. Eddie decided he wanted to give Okie a little more time off. He came home all concerned because the 30 year old , arthritic school horse hobbled up and turned her butt to Okie and came off the ground a couple of "inches" to try to kick him. I asked him what Okie did and he said he just gave her "the look" and she hurried off. From this he gathered that the mind willing but the body not back to normal yet. When he is though, I hope he doesn't remember being picked on or there may be hell to pay!
Well I just got kicked out of the den. They are watching lotr3. All I did was comment that the little creature needed some underwear and say "look at the horses" to my grandkids.
I love the horses...
Yeah but I guess I'm not supposed to talk about them during the movie:')
I will defer to your vet.... Her explanation of what is going on makes sense. And I think we will set up some cavaletti for Cyn as well, for something to do with her here at home.
~shakes head~ ;~D
So do you think like 4 X 4 landscape timbers would work for cavaletti's?
I am going to try to started tomorrow.
Becky
I like that because you can vary the height by how you rotate them.
Dad took these pictures at the beach house the other day.
To see a bald eagle at the beach house is fairly common, circling high overhead, fishing. To see one land and perch on your dock is pretty rare... and to have it happen when you have time to find the camera and capture it, even rarer!
As a size reference, the cap rail that he has his talons around is a 2x6.
That is such a cool picture.
Good morning
Those are cool pictures Hair. What a wonderful thing too see:) Thanks for sharing.
Becky
