*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Nice trail Becky, we just glimpsed it as we were finishing up here, Emma says you have lovely countryside and I have to agree! It will be great if you can use this place to ride again! : )

No, that's it for tonight. 7 hours of riding, and getting up at 5:30 is taking it's toll:). The only ones left are just people sitting around camp for lunch.

The one thing I would have liked to take a picture of was if you look at that one that is a close up of Jen, with a man and a big rock behind her. We circled around to under that rock, and it was like a cliff wall, and the front of it was one rock and I think it was the lenght of a football field. It was incredible.

It is a very pretty place to ride. And the man who owns it stopped and told some neat stories about things along the way. It was a great ride.

Thanks for the advice about setting the camera on a different resolution setting. I'll try that next time.

It sounds like a great ride. Glad you got some pics so you could share it.

We're going to get the truck this Thursday when we go to Tacoma for the Lipizzaner show. Then we'll have it at least Friday Sat and Sunday, and we hope to go twice if not three times.

There's an organized ride... a fundraiser for the Special Olympics, on I think June 23. I think it might be fun to go... and ecurbh might like seeing all the different kinds of horses and riders that show up for those things. They have an 8 and 15 mile loop.

Well, I like super high res photos, we have ours set really high, but on cable the upload time is less of an issue.

Oh, great:). on both getting to see the Lipizzaner show, and getting to ride alot:)

I meant to ask Mr. Hobbs how far we rode today. I don't know if he would even know really. We only walked, but we were walking at a pretty fair pace, I'd say 4 miles an hour.

I'm going to try to get together with Beth and go back out on this ranch, she knows her way around a little. Problem with her is she doesn't get up till noon, usually:). This time of year it's getting too hot to start that late in the day. I'll try venturing out there on my own, but I won't be going to far, I don't want to get lost:)

Well Mack is going to be getting DSL soon, it just became available out here a month or so ago. But till then, I'll turn the camera down a bit and see if that helps.

You'll also fit more pics on your disc that way.

I don't think you'll get lost... your horse usually knows how to get back home ;~D

We have a card to put like 125 pictures on, I just didn't take it. I didn't expect there to be so many things I wanted pictures of.

The horses did pick up their pace on the way home.

Harley is in the front yard eating some grass. I'm trying to keep my eyes open till 10, then I'll put him up and feed one more time, then I'm going to bed. Tomorrow everyone gets the day off, I'm cleaning house. It's time to start getting things in shape and organized for our trip to TX,

Your horses stay up late.

One of the drawbacks of feeding 3X a day, and trying to space them out as much as possible")

But then too, I'd say your horses get up to early:)

I don't remember if I've ever told you guys about the pony we lost. When Jenny was about a 1st grader we bought her a pony. Prettiest little think you ever saw, Christopher was sorrel, with a blaze face, 4 white stockings, and a flaxedn mane and tail.

We had him about 2 hours:(. He touched the hot wire on one side of his run, and ran thru it on the other side and down the road he went. Beings as it was almost dark, we couldn't look long that night. We tracked him the next day to a cattle guard that goes into the property I rode on yesterday.

That, and one other time with Beth is the only time I've been on this ranch. We hunted for that pony for days, the father of the man who owns it now took us all over the place looking in the cattle herds to see if he showed up there. We never did find that pony, now I know why. Even with all the hunting we did, I had no clue that place was that big. Barring someone getting him, or death, that little guy could easily have lived up there on his own for a very long time. And probably never be seen.

Oh, and one other thing. Did you notice that that was Harley next to Dot tied to a trailer:). We asked a lady there that I knew if we could tie to her trailer, I led him up to it, and he got a little alert, I let him stand there and look around a few mintes then tied him, and he did not pull back once:) Strange trailer, lots of commotion....I think he might be over his fear of trailers:) The people in the trailer that was behind him, even drove off with him there. I didn't realize they were leaving or I would have moved him, but I didn't notice till after the lunch break that they were gone.

That trail ride looks like it was a blast. What's the story about the muddy horse that slipped? I must have missed it.

My daughter and I got to ride yesterday, first time we've had the horses out since about December. All we did was walk but they were fine. I'm making arrangements to rent an indoor arena once a week. It's at a therapeutic riding facility that I used to volunteer at. I think the website is www.ridingunlimited.org.

That was my daughters horse. She was coming up out of the pond, and slipped in the mud on the bank. Jenny got out from under her, so it wasn't bad, kind of funny really. Didn't bother Dot at all.

Did your daughter ride in her new saddle? Is she liking it?

No, she used my english saddle. I'm still working on the new one, getting the stirrups to mind me. It's probably good to go but she likes my english saddle so much that I let her use it. We were just in my front pasture, not the trails. If we were out on the trails, she would have been using the western saddle.

I noticed that it was Harley tied to the trailer, and was going to ask you how he did tied. Glad there no problems. One thing, I would like to know, why the tie-down?
