This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Ooohhh! What a man! U sure know how to treat a lady! : D
Well, we went out for breakfast and then drove around in the state forest. Found a campsite/trailhead we can NOT get to in the horse trailer... heck of a road getting in there... we'll have to hoof it there.
Gonna hit the couch and be lazy now...
Huh. We have bad weather coming in. Possible hail and tornados. The skies are clear right now and it's hot and sunny.
Usually this stuff slams through about 20-30 miles north of us. We get warnings but that's about it. However about a year ago we had a really bad hail storm. You take care too.
We just got back from finding the starting point of the ride. This 5 hour ride tomorrow may be more like 8 for us since we're riding to the starting point instead of trailering. Not sure how I feel about that:) I think Beth may be exaggerating again but she said that the guy hosting it is expecting 100 people. That's alot of dam people and horses. I can't imagine how this is going to be, but we're going:)
I took a few pictures, I'll post them later. I've got to get supper going now.

We are heading up that a way this summer! Should be an interesting trip! : ) We have rented a log cabin in two different places.
Beware the fourth of July weekend... it's a time I usually spend at home with jittery horses and drugged up dogs enduring the sounds of warfare.
Nothing at all happens... ;~D
Honestly, I'm as much a patriot as anyone, but I really loathe the 4th of July, and have since the first time I had horses to tend.
And really, the horses do just fine with distant booms and firecrackers... but my neighbors do much more than that, big reservation fireworks and lots of them, usually. The first year when I was here without a barn I was out holding them till midnight, afraid they were going to run a fence from the next overhead bottle rocket. :~\
Now, I keep the horses inside, on heavy doses of Quietex, dogs drugged into a temporary coma, and it's not too bad... But I'll still never properly enjoy it.

I was thinking about the fireworks earlier. Cindy crawls under the covers. Might get crowded with Sarah Lee and Okie
We are going to have 2 barn raisers before winter but for now we are going to build a lean to with the south side open. Could I run into problems feeding them there to get used to it?
Another thing. My BIL told Eddie there was more grass right now than they can ever eat. That might not be good. I'll get pics when I go up next weekend.
This week we are getting the trailer ready

How much is more than they can ever eat and what kind of grass? Round pen sounds like a good idea.
