The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FIVE

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I'm sorry about the well - do you have any idea what the problem is? If I remember correctly, you are much to far from a neighbor to run a hose aren't you?

Um just a little ways too far! LOL We have another well but it 5 acres away from where I need it! They should be back this afternoon, and I hope it's early rather than late. I've dealt with these guys before though so i'm not holding my breath. My biggest peeve is that I am a constant hand washer. I wash my hamds hundreds of times in a day. After every little job. I don't realise how often, until I can't. I hate having hands that I feel are unclean. I am going out and washing them in the pool when I can! : ) I just hope that they turn up before I have to carry gallons more water to the horses, my arm just can't manage that and Deaconjim is working a 12hr day shift and wont be back till 8pm. I guess if need be I will have to call in some favours! : )

This is the property that I would just LOVE!

A unique 40 acres that allows you to step out from your property boundary, on three sides, and access the scenic Ozark National Forest, which is 3 miles to 90 miles of US designated horse trails. This beautiful forest is teeming with wildlife and has lots of horseback and hiking trails. This property has about 20 acres of Bermuda grass pasture; the balance is wooded and is only about 3 miles from the famous White River and trout fishing. Its location is close to Mountain View, Arkansas, the folk and bluegrass capital of the Ozarks. The owner has the place set up for riding mules, complete with a 50’ round pen and a good shop building with side sheds for feeding. The shop also has a full bath that could be perfect for a small living quarters or apartment. There is an all-purpose barn that is 30x30 with side sheds for equipment and hay storage. The comfortable 3 bedroom, 2 bath brick home has central heat and air plus a fireplace with insert. The deck is 19x32 and has an unbelievable view of the national forest. Priced at $185,000

My goodness, land is cheap there. I'd buy that today if I didn't have to live in Arkansas. No offense to Arkansas - I just don't want to leave Nevada, but the description of the property is wonderful.

We have been looking at farms in KY and TN for a long time, I accidently came accross a website for AR and MO and I know it is not the most HIP place to live, but as I will be raising cattle, and homeschooling, that does not concern me. I love quiet places not cities.
the first website I found was
http://www.ar-realestate.net/listings.htm
You can buy a lot of land for your money!

LOL - my objections to Arkansas are the blanket objections I have to the southeast. I lived in Alabama (a beautiful state with wonderful people), Georgia and North Carolina for eleven years. I just don't do well with the humidity, the bugs, the lack of sky :)

I love having almost no humidity, sunshine every day, no bugs except an occassional ant, and the fact that I can see 100 miles. Oh, and my mountains. Of course, most people think this is the most desolate country in the world.

Every kind of climate has it's fans... What you see as big sky, I see as lack of shade... This nordic gal would not survive a week in the desert. :~D

I wish I could see myself moving inland where land is so much cheaper. But I have a mental block about leaving salt water and tall trees.

The humidity here is what makes me want to head further north. I found in north Tennessee and Ky that it was much much easier to breathe : )
Your land is beautiful, it is different but beautiful in its own magical way. I long to tour America and see all the different states. I LOVE mountains, and you certainly have some there! : )
I don't think I could go back to England to live. It is very different from here, I guess North Tennessee is like Scotland but warmer! In southern England itis so crowded. I hate places like London and other major cities. Even though I thought I lived in the country in England the first thing I noticed here was the beautiful clouds and at night the stars were magical. Also the space and quietness was overwhelming!
The few things that i do not like are mosquitos, fire ants and snakes! I could have lived my whole life never having had to deal with them! LOL : )

Isn't that the truth :) And I'm the first to admit that the northwest and the southeast have a lot more fans than my part of the country.

I do hope that one of these days - when I retire, we can move closer to the center of Nevada, and away from all the people moving in. I live in the seventh fastest growing county in the US, but people are moving here because of the economy, not the scenery (and then they complain loudly about the fact that this is a desert) It's good for the state I guess but really frustrating having to deal with the hordes of new residents.

We are accustomed to tourists - they come, spend money and leave. They don't try to change the state. Our new residents want to close the whore houses, ban smoking, close or limit the casinos, and have green lawns. Kind of hard to welcome them with open arms :)

I've never lived in TN or KY but I've driven through them numerous times. They are beautiful states. Home to Country Music and Thoroughbred horses :)

Heh... If there's one thing wrong with this area, it's too many people. But there are still places to get away from them. In my lifetime anyway. I don't know that future generations will be so lucky.

Well, we are going to go to a Sunday brunch and have a decadent breakfast.
