Ok, here is the front bed. I think next year I'm just going to fill up behind the rocks with a varity of iris. I've got too much to keep weed well. I can add varity and color to this bed by planting some annuals infront of the rocks, The day lillies will add color behind the rocks when the iris are done. I have an iris bed at the side of the house, and they get so thick that I don't have trouble with weeds and grass growing there. The iris will also hide the ugly foundation bricks of the house. But that's all for next year. The dogwood in the foreground

My Red Maple

Rose of Sharon in the foreground, there is another, smaller one at the other end of the rocks. It's smaller because when I planted them last year, for some reason, Grizzly kept pulling that one out of the ground. I've been surprised it came back at all. My son in law dug them up at his parents house for his and Jenny's place. They had some extra so gave them to me. They bloom in the hot summer, so will give me some flowers after the iris are done too.

Impatients, and shade coleus behind the rocks this year. I also dug some spider wart up from out in the woods and planted them among the impatients, they haven't recovered from the shock of transplanting yet tho. They should grow back every year and will add some color to the iris after the iris is done flowering.

sorry for the rambling, I just realy enjoy gardening.

If you have to fall that sounds like the way to do it. Glad you are ok.

I was wondering about that. I don't think it hurts tho on this thread. I think the only reason for the mods not wanting them to go over 5,000 is it's hard to moderate in case of trouble.

I was going to start a post with "I haven't fallen since..." but I don't want to tempt fate.

Good morning Becky and everybody. I have a picture to share of a foal at the ranch where we've been riding. He's named Allelujah because he was born around Easter -- Louie for short.

I've been riding, along with my kids. I'm a fool for loping!

How cute... That's a very flashy foal! I'm guessing they are very pleased.

LOL...I use to take a tumble about once a year. Every time I fell, I would think, OK, that's out of the way for a while, and I'd feel a whole lot more confident:)

Now it looks like it's about once every 2 years. I won't have to worry about it happening at TX.

Hey, but falls are just part of it. I really think with the amount of riding I do, I'm probably pretty average with the amount of times I come off. It's going to happen, IMO, and you just need to have the mind set when it does, it's not going to get to you. Of course, I do everything I can to keep it from happening, and was working hard yesterday, to get back in the saddle. I really think if he hadn't of tried to make the second barrel turn, I might have saved myself. Centrifical force is hard to overcome especially when your center of gravity is off. I've been wondering how much my doing weight lifting is what helped me hang on as long as I did.

I didn't say a word ;~D

Seriously.... keep your head down, post like you might be a serious member, interested in participating in a "gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America. And we always have fun doing it. Hoo-yah! "

All the mods need is to notice you in order to ban you again.

That said... welcome back, and good luck!

My last mishap was when Bay fell... and that only hurt me where he landed on my foot. Ankle swelled up pretty good, but not as bad as his knees, so I didn't even really have a chance to worry about it, I was so busy doctoring him.

But the last time I fell off, I was thrown by the crazy Arab mare that woman was looking to give away.

If that isn't a situation that should have carried it's own warning, I don't know what is!

HA!

A friend told me about this horse... Absolutely breath-taking Arab mare. World class work of art. Seriously. But the woman was afraid of her and wanted to give her away. She kept getting thrown. She'd spent thousands on pro trainers, the horse was very highly trained, but she'd just 'go off' the woman said.

I lunged her three days without mishap. The mare was a dream, obedient, beautiful, soft handling... And the woman who owned her sounded nuttier every time I talked to her. I thought the trouble was all in this woman... So I got on. I rode her walk, trot canter, over cavaletti and she was a really nice ride. Then I was relaxed, had her on a loose rein, and I unintentionally but innocently enough let my stirrup drag on the arena wall.

The mare went OFF. She bucked once or twice to throw me, I was caught so unawares it didn't take much. I climbed back on, dumbly enough, but she was fine again. I went around another 15 minutes or so, and didn't want to push my luck, but I was still thinking about taking the mare "OK she's a little spooky". Well we stopped, and I was having some words with the owner and my friend who was there, and my friend grabbed her drink cup with ice in it and went to take a drink... but it made noise in the cup.... The horse lost it again.

It was sortof like the way my pony explodes... like there's no 'medium startle' setting. Only 'calm' or 'ABSOLUTE FIGHT FOR YOUR LIFE PANIC'. The second time hurt more, and I was sore for a week.

Her reactions to things didn't make any sense... she was otherwise so gorgeous and generally nice to be around. I think the lady did eventually give her away as a brood mare to someone who promised not to ride her, only breed her. Sortof like your mare maybe.

Only... in this mare's case, I suspect it was a genetic screw loose. She came from Messiah Arabian Stud, owned by the "Ramtha" woman who claims to be channeling a reincarnated 3,000 year old warrior.... Have you heard of her? She was on TV talk shows a lot in the 80s. They live not too far from here. They had a stallion, her daddy, who was absolutely gorgeous, like a work of art, but he was known for exploding in the ring.
