*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

...Those plantation looking homes are incredible. Can you take tours through them?...

Not really. Rogers Hall belongs to the University and they have offices in there. Colby Hall may belong to them too, but it can be rented out for special occasions like weddings and stuff. They've also had some Decorator Show House type things in there from time to time, usually around Christmas. I just have to enjoy looking at them from the street.

Good morning... grey out... I'll be weed-wacking the rest of the fence line today later when it warms up and dries up.

They're forecasting a real warm spell here... 80s by Thurs.

I don't think I'd trade our weather for yours, no ;~D

It's warming up out in the pasture where the sun is... But I've still got to give it a couple hours to dry before I go out a wackin.

It is nasty outside right now.

Humidity is through the roof, so it feels like someone has thrown a hot, wet blanket over your face everytime you walk out of the building.

Blech!

You guys may have already seen this site, but it is really cool, I think:). It's areial photos. When you click on this link, I have it set to come up to show my property. Follow the road that runs east and west from the east side, it's at the bottom of the picture. It has a curve to the north then back to the east. When you come to the intersecting road that run just north my property is right in that corner. The lighter colored rectangle is our arena. It's at the very edge of the right side about the middle.

Why I started looking for this, is the lady I rode with last Mon. is trying to find out who owns some of the land I took her on. She showed up here this morning with platte maps, we couldn't hardly make out tho where everything was at, Her and I left in her truck to try to find road signs that gave us an idea what her platte showed. Mack found us this site, and bingo, I can see all the trails I ride on when I scan north and east of my property. Makes it easy now to read the plattes she brought.

I' sorry, I don't think my directions will get you to my property:), I'm not good with east and west.

Follow the road that is towards the bottom from left to right. It has a cruve to the NE, they straight back east. After that You will see an intersecting road that goes north my property runs along that road. The lighter colored rectangle area is our arena. There is another lighter colored area a little above that is a clearing at the back of our property. Our proptery is at the right side about the middle of the picture.

I figured that's what you meant, otherwise it didn't make any sense. I love sites like that. I looked up our place, but of course the aerial photo is from 1999, which is before we bought it, so all it shows is grown up fields and woods. Still interesting to look at though.

Ours is a little out of date too, and it'd be hard to really tell where our property lines are. But I may draw some lines on it and post it later, for interest's sake. Right now I am just on a gas-refill break from weedwacking fence line. I'm impressed that across the road that is to the back of our property, it looks to be undeveloped woods. I wonder if it still is. I sure wish I was still in the day that I would go find or make trails without fear of crossing the road. ;~D

Here's the aerial of our place with the property marked. I'm sure I've mentioned that the big place next door to us is a little store and gas station.

You look like you've got some kind of race track across from you too.

Yeah - there was a horse track over there. The track rails have been taken down now... but they were there when I moved in here. Now it's pasture. I wondered when I got here if I could ask and go over there and exercise horses on it, but I never did.

Oh, and BTW, I couldn't get the picture to post, that's why I posted a link.

If you look at our arena, that arm that sticks out at an angle is the top of our barn, the lighter spot at the end of our arena on the road end is our shop, and our house is right of the shop facing the arena. My web TV, won't let me get as close as a computer will. I can see this stuff more clearly on Macks computer. Our property is 330 feet across facing the road, and goes back 660 ft. You can see a line at the back that is our back side property line. The right edge of the photo that shows on my link is about where our other side is.

Wow, a race track:). Was it a private one or did they really race there?

I had to do a print screen to save it as an image, and draw the lines in Paint... Then I just put it at snapfish.

You can't see our barn, but you can see part of the house as a white dot in the trees. I can see the shape of your lot and your buildings from your description. Ours is just a weird shape and not much to see on the aerial. The pasture that we call 'the back forty' is about half the treed area... the rest is all heavy undergrowth and impassable really.

Just private. Way back when sometime, maybe they raised thoroughbreds there, but not now, though they do now have a nice arena with jumps in it. I've never talked to the people... we tried once, when we were looking for vacation boarding options, I think they do board horses, though I'm not sure. The teenage girl that lives there ran inside and locked the door and wouldn't answer when ecurbh and I walked up to ask. It was very weird and we never went back.
