This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Huh - I've never heard of that.
Has it only been in the dry hot states because of environmental needs of the virus? or is that just luck of where it hit?
I don't think we'll go tomorrow, it's pouring and set to continue pouring through tomorrow.
But we'll have more chances most weekends I hope :~D
I was hoping maybe someone knew what this was and how horses were exposed.
It was once and she coughed two or three times and I slowed her to walk immediately and she didn't do it again. I had her on grass so I don't think it was dust. I'm trying to go easy with her but just trying to figure what easy is for her. She's different from Okie. He was sicker but recovered faster and seems completely recovered with no residual.
Good morning.
Becky
Your welcome:). And I'm very glad it will work for you. I thought it the best homeschool program out there myself, altho it doesn't seem to be as well known. I've often wondered why.
Becky
Mornin' ladies,
Hair, your pics are incredible and I noticed the coats, too!
Vesicular stomatitis (or however the heck you spell it) is more commonly known as hoof and mouth disease but I'm not sure if they are the same thing, just same symptoms. It's mostly a cattle disease but horses can get it. I don't think the animals die from it but since it's contagious I think cattle owners destroy the cows with it. Horses will get over it but they will be supremely miserable until they do.
Becky, it's unbelievably hot and humid here with no end in sight. This is pretty unusual, it's not normally this bad until late June.
Good morning! In England they have bad outbreaks of FMD, mainly with sheep and they have trouble containing it. You have to walk through foot baths etc. Many animals are slaughtered when an outbreak happens. It is not hot and dry in England, it rarely gets to 70 degrees, but it is humid.
I was catching up with the posts here this morning and saw the photos of your house etc, you haev a beautiful place. I love the rocks around the pool! : )
I also want your barn! : D
Well, I finally came to the conclusion, that a lot of parents have the mind set that harder means better. Most families in this area use Abeka. Abeka IS a good program, but not a homeschool program IMO.
I had a neighbor with 6 kids. Her husband made her use Abeka, and she hated it. After I showed her ACE she wanted to change, but her husband wouldn't let her. The reasoning, there is a private school in this area that uses it and graduates top notch students who score well on tests. Is what he could not seem to grasp is that Abeka was very difficult for a mother with 6 kids at different levels. ACE was designed to teach kids as throughly as Abeka, but was ALSO designed for a family of multiple children at differnt levels. This poor lady had to school year round pretty much all day 6 days a week to keep everyone where they needed to be. And of course lots of times some of her kids were sitting doing nothing, because they were having to wait on mom to get to them.
Sounds like you had a good day. We went and watched my daughters step son play a baseball game. That was fun. We went on the motorcycle. Then last night Jenny and her husband Travis came over for supper. Travis brought his guitar and picked around on it, Jenny and I did some kareoke:), then we watched a boxing match.
It is suppose to be cooler today, I hope to ride some. We are all getting excited over going to the clinic in June. We got a form we have to fill out that asks questions about our barrel racing experience. I guess they divide up into groups according to that. I have a feeling me and the girls will be in seperate groups, as they are much more advanced then me on barrels. OH NO:), Jenny is my secuity blanket.
Becky
sounds like you had a good day too!
Even if you and Jenny are seperated, you will probably find a friend in the group you will be in, don't forget others will not like being seperated too, and will be looking for someone to hang on in there with! : D
Well we have a 60% chance of rain this evening. The temps are suppose to stay in the lower 80's today. It's not bad at all right now. I've been out all morning watering and watching the hummingbirds:)
Becky
Good morning... I have to make some coffee ;~D
Thanks, Sharn. I always like looking at everyone's pics, where they live, animals, etc., so I was hoping everyone would enjoy mine. The barn is terrific, I have nooooo complaints. This house I can complain about a bit, it's big but cheaply built. I can think of lots of things to change but not gonna do it now.
I can't believe you're getting rain! We haven't had doodly squat this spring. The landscape is already starting to look like August.
Dadgummit, why are you getting rain and cooler weather and I'm not?! You're not that far away from me.
Dang! When you put up a fence, you put up a FENCE. Whatcha trying to keep in back there, a T-Rex?! ;o)
I heard more is always better ;~D
I don't know, I just pulled the pic off of Strange Cosmos. It was one of those that make you say "DANG!".
