This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

He's such a sensitive soul... He's shadowing me so much, he's not helping me past my phobia about tripping over him, he was under foot even as I was trying to clean stalls.
I don't know what's with all the shooting now, I think someone's having family shooting day, it's even more frequent now.
I can sympathize with Homer, shooting makes me nervous too. I always worry about stray bullets.
That's our baby!
Lookit that face!
Not yours, ecurbh! Homer's. ;-D
Poor guy, he looks like he's saying "Tell me it ain't so, Boss!"
I rode Rusty today. I took him to the creek to do some hill climbing. I noticed only one hitchity step. No complete lock ups.
I took Belle in for her treatment. After cleaning her out the vet said the infection was very mild and one treatment should do it. She is right now either coming in season or going out. So the vet wants me to watch her close and at the very first signs of her next heat cycle, I'll run her in for a culture and if that comes in clear, I'll breed her back immediatly. She said it should be in about 14 days. If she goes much longer we will just give her a shot to bring her in.
She really looks funny. The medicne the vet put in her will leak out of course. But the vet said it tends to scald them on their cheeks:(, so I'm to put Diaper Rash ointment on her. The vet put some on her before we left, so she has big white cheeks.

I forgot to add. The vet said the infection she had is caused when a mare doesn't expell the afterbirth very fast and it hangs out of her and she gets up and down several times. It gets dirty and that gets inside her.
I didn't ask, but I'm wondering if this wouldn't have happened if she had been on pasture on grass.
I can't really remember if when she had Dot that she did that. Been to long ago. But it's something she said I don't have to worry about Rocky picking it up.
Becky
Glad to hear this :) Also sounds like Rusty is doing okay too.
AWWW. I think he wants you to make it stop:') He looks like he has really filled out.
It is affiliated with Bethany College, which offers a degree in equine studies. The college also has an intercollegiate equestrian team which in its first year of competition finished fifth out of over 20 teams. It will host an endurance trail ride in October, and many more events in 2006. Check it out!
Wow. I wish there were courses like that around here.
It's going to be the premiere, top of the line equestrian facility in the region, which includes OH, PA, MD, VA and WV, at the very least. Anyone interested may freep mail me.
