*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

That's interesting that it has a sepia setting! Everyone looks great, including Belle... I sure hope she can get diagnosed and treated soon.

How big is your pasture area that Belle is in?

I forgot to tell you, that the vet did call me back this morning. Belle's infection is very mild, and easy one to treat, she goes tomorrow afternoon for her first treatment. Well probably take two treatments.

The pasture she is in is not very big. It's the one behind my house that goes out to the road where I torched the grass this past winter. Maybe 1/3 of an acre. The spot she is in is almost the exact spot Rusty was in when I took that picture of him I like so well. Seconds before I took this one she was standing almost identical to what Rusty looked like, but as I walked toward her to take it she moved.

OK - It looks pretty lush and green, and I can't tell where the fence is.

I am SOOO glad about Belle.

WOO HOO! If only you could have known about this a year ago. I feel bad for your lost foal.

Thanks it was a relief. We will get the treatments behind us this week, run one more culture to make sure she is clear then breed her back. Since I didn't get to post pictures of a baby, maybe I'll take some of the breeding:) NOT.

That pasture might look lush, but there is very very little eatable grass for a horse. A goat might like what's out there, but there is not much for a horse.

The fence is just a fake strand of hot wire wire. She has never been one to get on a fence. But I don't put any horse out there unless I'm home.

If you look close at the tree in Belles picture, down towards the bottom you can see a line, that's the fence.

We'll take ~almost~ any pictures we can get... Heck... You got my breeding photos, and there was no breeding!

Our back forty is like yours... lots of green stuff no one wants to eat. ;~\

Well, I tried for over an hour, including breaks to rest my arm, to get the lawnmower started. I swear I am going to shoot it before I let it ruin my mood again.

This area is one of the prettiest areas out here. I really like going down there. On the right is steep inclines up, that have some really neat rocks sticking out, , that creek runs the whole length. I wish I had been more on the ball about taking some pictures. We were too busy yaking:)

I may just make a trip down there one time to get pictures to show you. I just don't go there much by my self anymore. But right now during the week with school still in I shouldn't run into anyone. It's running into nut cases that scares me more then worrying about what the horse will do.

I started to get a mower with an automatic start for my Mother coz she could never get hers started either, but they are very expensive. We ended up getting her an electric. It wasn't near as expensive and she has a small yard and can get by with a 100ft cord. It's kinda cool.

Well, with enough extension cord, I could mow the pasture with that.

I'm gonna have some lunch and then lunge horses or something. Might put my cavalleti back together.

Becky,
If you have a bad feeling about going there alone, don't go. There is something that is giving you that feeling so listen to it :) We can wait on pictures.

If only you could have known about this a year ago.

You know, I've been trying not to think of the "if only." I took Belle in when she lost that first one to that vet I used that died, I always liked him because he was conservative, and was not fast to run tests that cost money. He palpated her and said she was fine, it was just one of those things, to breed her back. I had no idea she could have an infection that would cause her to loose one that wouldn't show up from a palpation. I don't want to be mad at him, but, I took her in to make sure this didn't happen again....if only:)

It's really not ME that has the bad feeling:), it's more my family worrying about me. But I could wait till Jenny can go, she won't think I'm so weird to stop and take pictures. She knows I post alot:)

I am so glad you have got your camera up and running, love the pics! I really must get out and take more, the colts are changing color by the day..........

something has been at my chickens : ( I saw a bald eagle on deaconjims workshop 3 days ago, so it is probably that. It is the second one in the wild that I have seen, the last one was at deaconjims uncles house at the lake on July 4th! When I pointed it out to everyone, they seemed to think I was joking until they saw it! What a day to see one!

Our kittens are running around everywhere now and are all very beautiful.

The goat has settled in well, it is eating all the stuff the horses wont. : )

Jacob still hasnt gone back to school, he developed a cough and last night his breathing while asleep was very very fast and shallow. We nearly took him to the emergency rm but called his doctors instead and took him first thing. He has walking pnumonia, poor lad. He should be back at school Wednesday though. : ) (they break up Friday).

It is our wedding anniversary this thursday (4 years) and we are going to celebrate it this weekend with riding/swimming/ steaks and aligator tail on the grill and maybe fishing............basicly no jobs, no must get dones, just relaxing! (deaconjim take note! LOL)!!

Becky, I am glad that you have found out what caused Belle to lose the foal, it does mean that once her cultures are clear, she can be bred again which is wonderful news. : )

Well, I went out to catch a horse to lunge, actually had Cyn's halter with me, but the pony was the first up to me, and, never letting a good deed go unpunished, I decided to work her instead.

"I wonder what would happen if it stomped on that?"

Just for something ~really~ different, I decided to put her bit and bridle on. I usually lunge and drive her in halter, and I think it's been 3-4 years since she's had a bit in her mouth. Can you tell? ;~D She went around the first five minutes with her mouth wide open. ;~D

Then she settled down and acted like a better pony.

Next we did a little driving. She'd be such a cute cart pony... If I had an emergency release pin that would disconnect her from me, I would ;~D

She did really good for having practically no work lately, so we drove around the yard a bit and kept it simple. We even stopped to smell the flowers ;~D

With nothing around her to give scale, she looks like a big horse ;~D I think she looks like a quarter horse in this picture...
