This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
You sound like me! I seem to be just collecting a herd of expensive pasture ornaments, but I do so love to watch them run. I'm going to sell some of mine some day, just not right now. ;o)
I'll be able to ride but I can't take them anywhere. Well, I guess I could but I would know and couldn't do that.
Summers just take some planning. You ride early or late. Last summer I rode some evenings until about 9PM. That's when it starts getting dusky:')
I'm back. I didn't take too many pictures, but I got a few to post. They are loading now on snapfish. Mack hasn't figured out that Quick load tool for the Mac. So I think this is going to take awhile. I'm loading 5. They are not that great of pictures, I'm still learning the camera. But they are of the area I've never posted pictures of. What we call Beaver Creek. It's a pretty remote area, that I don't go to by myself. We rode for about 3 hours. She was very impressed with the trails. Thought they were very pretty, and great for a young horse. She was on a very nice bay mare. She has been in real estate her whole life and knows about finding out who owns land. She is going to try to find and get permission on some land I use to ride on but has now been fenced and leased for hunting. No livestock on it, it's just used for hunting. It would really be great if we could get back on that land.

Cool... I'm sitting here waiting for pics then!
I'm waiting for the grass to dry out a little more (hopefully) before I go mow.
Oh yeah. Cindydawg acted like she had died and gone to Heaven:') Sarah's hair is blond but when she's in the light you can see the red so yes, I would call it strawberry blond. The babies hair is very dark. It looks dark brown or black but what a surprise when she was under the sun too. It's a chestnut color like Joshuas. I have 4 grandchildren and all 4 have hazel eyes like me and some type of red in their hair. My mom says mine used the be penny colored. She tells me a lot of stuff though:')
Well, looking out the window and seeing them when you wake up in the morning is good for the soul.

Pretty country! And nice trails... too narrow to be two-tracks... who makes them?
Those trails have been down there since we lived here. The pictures with the water is a creek. There is a cement bridge that you can't see because of the trees. It's very old and all crumbling away. I have no clue why it is there. There is nothing there, no electricy, no signs of any kind of habitation around this area. It's very strange. Sally said she was going to try to find out about the bridge. Now, there is no way to get a vehicle down there, really strange. It's such a remote area, that is why I don't go there by myself.
The trails now are kept open pretty much by 4 wheelers. There is always evidence of that people have been down there, beer cans, trash and stuff. The first picture of the water, straight across the creek that big tall tree, there use to be a rope hanging from a branch for swinging out over the creek and dropping in. It's very deep there.

To make sure I've got the hang of this I'm going to go take some pictures of my horses:). BBL

You're so lucky to have places like that you can just ride to. More and more, I'm thinking I want to build our stable adjacent to our state forest trails. I think it'd be worth a little bit further drive to the stable to have access to trails like that.... much better than an arena in town. Wouldn't you think so, if you were a boarder?
Oh - good! :~D
Nice trails! They look like some of the ones around here. Shaded trails sure make a big difference in the Summertime. They'll be a good 10 degrees cooler than out in the open.
I'd definately want to board someplace where there was access to trails, even if I had to drive farther and pay more, coz if you don't, you're gonna have to load up and trailer someplace else every time you want to ride, so it evens out in the end.
I'm going out to mow the first part... I'll come back in to look at pics, hopefully, on break!
And I think the trail riding crowd would be a very pleasant clientelle... At many boarding stables, your clients are 16 year old girls that show horses, and their sometimes clueless parents ;~D. 20 of those in a barn would make anyone crazy ;~D
I think putting it out by the trails, and also providing nice facilities for the show people, would give me a better mix of clients.
Yeah, neurotic parents can be a pain in the @$$.

The last picture I was playing with some settings, and changed it to sepia, but didn't know how to change it back:)

I just got a call from my neighbor up the road, with the horse that wigged out the other day. We are riding this evening. I'll get pictures of him:). I'm so excited to have a camera again. You may get tired of pictures:)
Out to take some of my garden now:)
