This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
There was a lot of food. No scones but someone had already made some cucumbers on cream cheese and rye so they told me to hold off with the stuff I brought. There were a lot of finger sandwiches and pastries and choc covered strawberries and any kind of hot tea you could want:')
Good moring
Becky
Well good morning!
Everyone sleeping in? We slept late here on the West coast, and we're still your first good morning?
~sip~
Raining out, again ;~D
This one was not too bad, as it was an open show. Some of the 4-H shows are really boring. Too much nit pickin and complaining. When my daughter volunteered as an adviser, I just rolled my eyes. Been there, done that. I suppose every club or organization has their problems, at some point. Different people with different ideas. The point shows she attends, are a little more interesting. I try and make those when the granddaughter shows lead line. We do have a conflict with my shooting tournaments thou...lol
BTW, my daughter did win Adult Horsemanship, and second in the jackpot Horsemanship. She was happy about that. I will have to get some pictures of her showing. She rides a Quarter gelding, who has a real low head set...heheheheh
The Arabian mare, Jody is coming home Tuesday from the trainers. He called me last week, and said she had a cough. He is going to send some medicine home with her. Big barn, lots of horses coming and going, going to shows, bound to happen. His arena is rather dusty, and she did cough when he rode her. We don't need the others at home to catch anything.
Good pics and explanation of the roaning gene. What a surprise when you purchase that nice black foal with a big white blanket, and 4 years later, he's all roaned out. That is why I like leopards. They don't change.
It looks to be a beautiful day here. mid 70's blue skies. Sally is coming to ride at 10:00. I am going to try to take some pictures. Not sure if Mack has tried 2J's procedure, but I'll see if I can get him to work on it after I get back.
I turned Rusty and Harley out to play a bit this morning, it's hard to believe Rusty has a problem he was flat out running laps around the arena, and back pasture. ???
I called the vet this morning...the receptionist said they had not recieved the results from the lab yet. And even if they get them in today, it won't be till at least tomorrow that I hear, the vet had to go to OK City today:\
After I get this problem taken care of, I've heard of another vet that I'm going to give a try too. Everyone I've talked to says this one I'm trying now is very had to get hold of at times, and is not good at returning calls.
Becky
Good Morning, ladies!
I switched from my original horse vet simply because you couldn't get return calls.
Glad Rusty is feeling good. I'm sure you like to see that.
It's been years since I've been around many shows. It's a good memory for me though.
Yeah, I should have been up long ago. I have an employee screening this evening so to keep down overtime I was told to come in late.
Yes and no. I mean would he do that if his stifle was still off, do I ride him, this just makes more questions about him, and I'm tired of the questions:)
Becky
In my opinion? Yes ride him... and don't worry about the stifle too much. Just be aware of it and if he takes a hitchy step then you know that's why. Where it might affect his hopes as a barrel horse, it shouldn't change him as a trail horse at all, you can go that way with him for awhile and see.
My vet and I talked quite awhile about Cyn's... and while I think she is more mild, she only seems to get hitchy trying to back up or pivot on it, he re-explained that all horses have locking stifles, that's why they can sleep standing up. It doesn't hurt when it locks up, he just has to have the muscling to pull it out of the socket, and if he steps wrong, he might get stuck for a stride or two till he can free it. But it isn't necessarily an unsoundness.
We will do our best, to keep them from contacting each other. It's pretty hard, when you only have one barn. I did ask him about strangles and he said no, it was not that. She does have a runny nose too, so we want to make sure she doesn't touch anyone else. We had two at the show yesterday, so there is just as much chance to pick something up there too. She has not been out of that barn for 6 weeks. Fresh air, and turning her out to pasture will do her a world of good.
Hopefully it's just dust. Mine all had a cough during the last of the local hay that was so dusty. And it cleared up when I got new hay.
Well that's good. I'm gun shy right now so when I hear runny noses and around horses coming and going....
This is a picture of my ugly @ss SIL. :)
Becky should be able to post her pictures now, so look out. :)

Except it looks like that host site doesn't allow hotlinking ;~D
???
BigMack
It's just a red "X" for us here.
I can copy your source and paste that into my browser and I can see it.

But the picture doesn't show up on the thread as a hotlink. You can see it because you viewed the page it came from and it's in your cache. From another computer or from the webtv, it'd be an X.
Not all sites are good for hosting pictures. Some turn to red X's immediately, some will only last for a few hits and then poop out. Snapfish, that Becky has used before, works well.
Good morning all!
Duch - I'm loving those baby pics! :-D
