This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Oh good!
Lacey and mom - check out the feet, you'll see why I'm having trouble getting pictures.
They are watching the storm clouds rolling in.
Speed, for once I caught her standing still and ears up.
Tuffy - camera=instant pose, love this kind of cooperation.
They have so much fun out there, don't they?
Well, I think that is a beautiful batch of babies! Really really pretty.
I think Lacy will be a very classy looking mare. I love her markings. Do you think she'll roan? I see now that mom is.
Speed will shed out Bay with black feet, I think. She'd fit in perfectly in our pasture ;~D
And Tuffy is loud :~D I see he's starting to shed out already, and he's gonna be bulky!
The tips of Tuffy's ears are white :~D
Very cute.
Lacey's sire is our stud and he doesn't have any roaning at 15yrs old.
Speed will be a bay and possibly roan like her mom. Don't know about that yet. She won't be big - maybe 15h and will be perfect for barrels or cutting. It's in her blood and her behavior :)
Tuffy will be a good halter horse, and probably trail or distance. I think he will not roan but that remains to be seen I guess.
Well, Tuffy sure is coming in dark around his eyes, but I suppose you can't tell from that :~D
One of the characteristics of a snowcap I think is the white tipped ears. Indy has those also, still at 8yrs old.
His dam is a very dark chestnut, what's left of her color on her face and legs, etc. She's what's called a tostada chestnut, like our stud, looks almost like a bay or black.
Lacey is so cute. Newborns are special. Where did Speed come from.? I missed her. She's a Cutey too. Tuffy still my favorite though. Not just because of his looks but his stories too:')
You've got to be pretty proud of this bunch!
Neat pictures.
Duchess: You think Speed could roan out? I've wondered about that....when do roans roan? I thought they were born that way, but you have one just starting to roan at 6years old. That is really interesting:)
Becky
Tuffy is a pill, although getting much better. He went on his first trailer ride last week :)
Oh, I am :)
Bet you all had a fun time.
Ok, I remember Speed . (I had to go back) I just didn't recognize the name. She's the one that had a difficult birth and wasn't nursing well? She looks like she's doing fine now. Why did you pick Speed? She fast?
Thanks. I am. Lilah doing fine. I had to put Cindy in the house after 3 peanutbutter/jelly sandwiches though. Sarah had a ball. "tea party" is all she has talked about.
Sometimes the appaloosas will roan out from pretty much solid to white spots all over to eventually pretty much white. Goer is an example of that. Our gelding, Prez and his daughter Fanny both are Goer horses and they did that.
That's Prez, when he was young his coloring was much like Lacey's.
That's Fanny and she did the same, solid except a couple of spots on her rump at birth. It took both of them about three years to do this, and each year they get a few more of the snowflake spots.
Some Appaloosas roan out with white hair replacing the base color until the only color left other than their spots, are "varnish" markings on their legs and heads. Indy and his mother, Farah did that. Don't know if Tuffy will or not.
This is Indy, when he was young he looked much like Tuffy, although his blanket had solid edges and wasn't as large. He also had spots in his blanket which Tuffy does not.
Then, some apps are born solid and roan out with white hair mixed with the colored hair, white spots, and colored spots developing as they roan. Dusty, Speed's mom was born solid with two or three white spots and a dun spot on her rump. She is roaning out to an almost leopard type pattern, a little more each year. She didn't start roaning until she was almost three.
Dusty two years ago and then two months ago.
I'll bet they had a ball. I'm so glad Lilah is doing well. Speed got her nickname, much to Bob's dismay, because she is only still when sleeping or nursing. She was running at an hour old. Bob says it's a masculine name, not a feminine one :)
