The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FIVE

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

My son was 8 when he took lessons, I was riding by myself at 4 or 5. The last horse show we went to, one of the little girls was 5yr old, riding a full size horse in a walk, trot, trail class. A lot depends on the child.

My daughter-in-law's horse is bred to our stallion, she's due in 10-15 days. That's the last then.

A lot depends on the child.

And the horse.

Click on the picture while holding down the control button..that'll give you a drop down menu. Select "Open picture in new window". After the picture opens in a new window, copy it's url and that's what you need.

What a gully washer we got last night, huh sis?? It was GREAT!! I'm thinking of taking the jedis down the street for a hike on Fry Ditch. Maybe find some interesting things.

Maybe get bit by a snake...

LOL!

Hey thanks for the info. I'll get Mack to look at it.

Yes that was a heck of a storm we got. We even got some pea size hail. I've been out surveying the damage to my garden. Not to bad. The snap dragons are in the dirt, and some glads laid over, leaves from the trees in the yard.

We really needed it tho.

Sometimes Macs have a right click...if you can right click on the picture and it gives you a drop down menu, then just do it that way and select "open picture in new window".

Otherwise, just hold down the control button and click on the picture for the menu.

You out buying a horse trailer:)?

We just got in, for awhile. OUr town is having a blues and barbeque festival tonight. We're going to go down there and listen to the music and watch the people:) We stopped by for a few minutes this afternoon. Some one had some miniature ponies down there, one was a mare with a 4wk baby at her side. It was so tiny.

True. That's why I was thinking about one that wasn't about to up and die but so old that she couldn't run away or throw them off if she tried. One that I could rescue from the glue factor and give some quality winter years. Just wondering if a pony better though. I lead them now and the 5 y/o takes lessons in the summer but always confined. Last year he went to horse camp one day and got put on pony rides caz all he wanted to do was ride but I want them to learn to care for the horse they ride and not just expect someone to have them ready and put them up when they are thru. All this is just talk and education for me though. No more horses right now.

www.countryloghomes.com....can't say enough about them. We had some insects(ants) a yr. after we built and they paid for an exterminator monthly for a yr. Ants were done in and haven't had a problem since.

We had a heck of a storm last night as well. No damage, though.

I forgot to tell you guys about what happened to the paint breeder down the street from me, www.fossilgatefarms.com.
My husband was driving down our street yesterday and the owner, Gary, was down at the street doing something. Anyway, my husband stopped to talk to him for a minute and he said Gary was distraught. He got up that morning to one of his best studs laying dead in the pasture. My husband couldn't remember the name of the stud but I bet it'll be posted on his site sometime soon. He's getting an autopsy.

I don't know if it has anything to do with it but all three of his studs are Impressive bred. He has them all listed HYPP N/N though.

One of the buyers that was out last week was telling me that HYPP N/N horses are dying from heat. I don't know that I believe this, she saw it was in a study in one of the horse magazines but I've not found it anywhere.

OMG what a thing to happen. Was he struck by Lightening?

We went on a nature trail today and I got to see my first water moccason snake, not a good thing for me, I swear my heart stopped.....We had already walked for a mile and Tommy was tired, so I was giving him a piggy back and saw a snake on the side of the path right in front of me. Urgh.

We did the last mile in double quick time in 90 degree heat!

I know it wasn't Sock Broker and I don't think it was Mr. Yella Fella and that leaves Tee Totally Cool. Cool is the prettiest one he has (imho) so I'm hoping he has another stud down there that I don't know about.

Nothing surprises me about Impressive horses, I have one myself, but in this case I don't think it was the heat, it hasn't gotten above 85 here yet.

There weren't any storms in the area the night he died. Do horses have heart attacks?
