The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FIVE

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Happy Easter to you, and it was really nice to meet you and your husband. No, I didn't buy anything. The only other one there, that I would have considered, was a real nice 9 yo dun Quarter mare. She went for $3,300. I guess it's best that I didn't get anything now. I looked for that Paso, but never did find him. We left a little after 4. I had to make a trip to the other side of Akron for the weekend, and just got home a while ago.

Duchess, the Appaloosa that Estrogen is talking about, was a really nice bay 6 yo, near-leopard gelding. Very flashy, with a tail that drug the ground..lol I almost got him for $1,500. Just a fraction too late. The other people bidding would have went higher, I am sure. They were really delighted they got the last bid. Maybe after vacation, I will look around. Heck, I am going to Tennessee and Kentucky...lots of horses there.

He sounds really nice - the other bidders sound like they really wanted him, might have been prepared to pay a lot more.

You'll find something when you are least expecting it, happens to me all the time. :)

"I'm Tee a paint? Sock broker pretty. Are his eyes blue? He looks more like Sarah Lee in color than Okie. I saw some out there that looked like Okie. Where did they come from? Is it it still 1500 plus the 300 shipping or is the 1500 only if he has to work?

I don't know about horse auctions there but I think bidders with an interest raise the price around here sometimes. At an auction if I like something I very seldom raise my bid. My first is usually my final offer.

I'm Tee Totally Cool "Cool" is a Quarter Horse. In person he's prettier than Broker, IMO. Cool is a really big, magnificent looking stallion. Broker was laying down in his stall snoring when I saw him, that may be why I was more impressed with Cool.

I'm not sure what-all the fees are but I can find out.

One of Broker's eyes are blue, I don't know about the other one.

Nah Don't ask. I was just window shopping and wondered in general, if it was cheaper to buy by mail.

It may say on their site what they charge to ship cooled semen. They don't do any live cover, I don't think.

Did you do that sketch? It's beautiful! I always wanted to be able to draw but I can't even do stick figures. Coloring inside the lines is about the extent of my artistic endeavors.

Okie doesn't have atemp today! The owner and I second guessing the vet and were going to start popping him with penicillin too but he's getting better. Poor Sarah Lee. She doesn't know what's going on. Every time I see her I start squeezing and looking up her nostrils:')

That is great, give him a big hug for me when you go out tomorrow - Okie, not the vet :) although sounds like the vet deserves a hug too.

Well I'm grateful to him but I'll stick with hugging Okie. The vet gets a handshake and 71 dollars. You know what he told me though? He said if I couldn't keep Okies temp down with wetting him down, that he didn't want me doing it too much caz it would mess up his lining but to put an ice cube in his rectum. You ever heard of that? I don't find it in my books. I guess if you have an animal about to die or convulse from a high temp it could be a last ditch effort but...
