The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FIVE

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Yes, I beleive you're right about the glass ball. I haven't found out anything about copper yet though, except that it's poisonous in high concentrations.

I was reading up on it. I saw treatment mostly for thrush and founder. There was an interesting study where they are making necklaces for rhinos and horses to help with arthritis. Maybe copper horse shoes?:')

Good morning!

I'm a little stiff! Have slower developing injuries to both hands... I must have landed on them too, they just hurt a little, and only one knee swelled, and it is stiff but walkable.

Morning everyone, Kids are still off school, sore throats, but no fever and feeling like a dogs dinner. I am the same way. : (
One of the horses got the main gate off the hinges last night! Nobody hurt and fortunatly we have it set up so that they go straight into the round pen, so no escapes. I suspect Adge.....
Chickens are playing on the swing set, they are all at the top of the slide so we are waiting for them to try going down! LOL
Had a pit bull up here on the property last night too, Deaconjim called the owner at midnight and in no uncertain terms told him he needed to make sure he was chained up. I don't want my kids hurt.
Cindydawg, I showed James your church, it looks and sounds like such a very special place. It seems that you can be yourself there with no pomp or pretense and wear what you want and are comfortable with, cause God loves you just the way you are. I just so wish we lived near enough to join. : )
How is your horse? Have you let her out into the pasture yet?

Yeah, it seems the next day the worst huh? Are your wrists ok? That's how we grown people usually break them. Kids will stick that chin out and bust it but we tend to "break" our falls.

Hey, Becky! Did you hear on the news!! About that woman on Turkey Mountain that fell off her horse and ended up in a ravine for hours?

I tell ya, when I heard it, I sat up and took notice. The trailer didn't look like yours...so I guess it wasn't you? LOL

Umm...have we heard from Becky this morning?

Anyway, this veterinariun was mountain biking out there and sees this horse coming down the trail with no rider!! So he fetches the horse and puts it in it's trailer and then hikes like 2 miles down the trail looking for the rider and sure enough, that woman had been there in the ravine for hours! They hauled her off to the hospital, I think she's still there! She was in fair condition, but hurt pretty bad, from what I understand.

Huh. Well I pray she does ok. I'm glad the vet found her so fast.

Yeah! That really was a miracle that someone who knew to do was there! I'da probably just stood there saying "What the hey?"

I've tried to find the story on the internet and can't...

Ohmygosh, did you get any names? what day did it happen?

No kidding, I was suppose to go with a group of women on Wed. to that very place to ride, but with my cold and being bummed about Belle, I passed.

I just tried to call my friend that I was going to go with, and no one answered, she is a widow lady about my age and lives alone, and you could tell from the beeps of her answereing machine, that there were a ton of messages on it. I don't know any of the other ladies that were suppose to go.

I'm really worried. There just isn't that many people who go there, especially during the week to trial ride, this seems an awful big coincidence.
