What do y'all know about artificial insemination? Takes all the fun away.......: D
To: Rose of Sharn
Well, I'd think he had to have fun at some point...
They build this big fake collection structures they convince the stallion is as good as a mare.
To: squarebarb
Oh, that's right, sorry had a brain laspe.
I know most of the breeders around here are going the AI route, but I have now clue what it costs, but $2000 sounds like a lot to me. The vet I will talk to tomorrow about Belle does a lot of AIing. I'll try to remember to ask her what it costs.

Yes, it's a procedure I would never consider. I think that's really a last resort type thing.

I don't think breeding your mare to a horse the size of a quarter horse, or another Arab would be a problem. But that is a guess. Cyn really isn't ~that~ small of a horse.

Yeah - I wouldn't breed her to a draft... just a larger stallion than herself. She just seems narrow. I wouldn't say she has "child-bearing hips".
To: HairOfTheDog

He's nice looking and 15.2 HH. That's not ~too~ much bigger than Cyn, is it? *smiling sweetly*
Click the pic for pricing. Is $500 the average for stud service?

...The breeder told me it could cost up to $2,000... It didn't cost me that much. The first time I ever had Truly bred, the stallion I was using was at a breeding barn and the manager liked to AI better than "live cover" because he could make one semen sample go farther by diluting it and also didn't run the risk of injury to his stallions. He had all the equipment there at his place and the fee was less than $100. I had to pay maybe $5 a day for board and the HCG shots were $25 extra if they were needed.
To: RMDupree
No.... he's not too big ;~D
He's not as big as Bay is. And $500 is pretty typical... some really popular stallions with distinguished accomplishments can be higher.
You don't have to look right now... this isn't happening this year... or probably next ;~D

Pacino's dam is a thoroughbred and that's why he is so much more streamlined. Deniro's mom is a percheron. They all three have the same Hanoverian sire. We got them from breeders in Canada. They foal about 50 a year and they post the pix and send you a video. Some of them are actually reasonably priced. She hauls them to a few dropoff points in the states when they are weaned. We picked ours up in VA but this year she is bringing about a dozen to our farm in PA for sale.......if you really want one :)

Ooooooo, he's PRETTY! He would make outstanding babies with Cyn.
I think the most I've paid for stud service is $300, but then I don't use any World Grand Champion studs either. Their fees can go into the thousands.
To: Duchess47
Thank you...we think so. Deniro is 15.2 already...lucky he's not toooo studdy, although he did try and play-mount me one day....sheesh.

When ever you decide, I could ship you some of Rocky:) He's not big, tall wise, but he'd put bulk on her:)

Thanks :~D
He looks like he could add good bulk to any gene pool :~D
I've just spent the last five minutes writhing in pain on the bed room floor, having tripped over the $%&#$ #%&*! dog. I fell hard on both knees, dropped the load of laundry I had in my hands, now I think my knees are gonna swell up.
I've got Bute ;~D If only I had some applesauce to mix it in... maybe bourbon will work ;~D
To: HairOfTheDog; Rose of Sharn
Are you and Rose of Sharn related? You both seem to have a talent for tripping over household animals. ;o)

To: FrogInABlender
ROTFL! This is the second time I've tripped over Homer... he has a knack for laying right in the way in darkened rooms.
To: HairOfTheDog
Oh dear! Let me know if you want me to pick up anything for it on my way home... such as more bourbon. ;~D

Oh man, I hate it when I bump my knee(s). You have my sympathy. I have literally passed out after bumping a knee. I always get nauseous and light headed when I do that. I don't know how you are managing anything after a fall like that.
Here, have one on me:

He loves to lie right behind my desk chair too, so I push away from the desk to get up and hear a yelp from behind me.
He ain't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer.
