This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
He might initially throw his shoulder out and hang on the lunge, but tt would just be interesting to see if he can get his balance in a tight circle that way.
I think so:)
I think he is going wide because I'm using to much inside leg. Your right about as soon as I correct and use my outside leg, the circle rounds up better, sometimes our circlies are more flat tire shape:)

I'll have to have Bob ask about that the next time he goes out to the vet. That is fascinating and I have never heard of it.
Make Sharn take you out to eat tonight for a big steak!
Use of a Glass Ball to Suppress Behavioral Estrus in Mares
What I didn't see is how long they leave it in there.... One season, a year, many years?
I'm afraid that would be difficult to do as I'm at work tonight. Maybe we'll combine my birthday this week with our anniversary next week and try to get out over the weekend.
Happy Birthday!
Cool! I had heard about it but figured it was just a folk medicine kind of thing. It's interesting that it actually has a basis in documented medical fact. Thanks!
What's the real beau look like? ;-D
I never heard of that either....one of those things makes you wonder who first got the idea to try something like that...
Duchess, hoping your mare does all right, I'm sure she will. We worry to much:)
Frog hope yours takes this time. Any clue as to what happened last year?
Becky
I was wondering the same thing, and was thinking as I scrolled down there would be pictures of him:)
Becky
From the article it looks like they were left in for one season. That would give you a year's freedom though from shots and/or implants. My neighbor could have really used this information a few years ago. He finally sold his riding mare because nothing seemed to work.
:) Happy Birthday!!
Well I'll give it a try, to see how he does. It would definitly tell me if I am the problem. If he lunges nice that direction, then I'll know if I'm doing it, or just him not likeing to go that direction and just needs practice.
Becky
Heh... I'm now waiting to see if all heat cycles go like the last one, or if they settle down. It is interesting!
It's really cool how much folk medicine is actually effective isn't it? I would bet this practice is several hundred years old and just now vindicated by science.
My Husband's birthday and our anniversary are just a few days apart too. It's kinda handy coz my chances of forgetting BOTH of them are less that way. I forgot his birthday one year, but I remembered in time for our anniversary, but by then I was already in hot water. I came up with a lame excuse about waiting to celebrate his birthday on our anniversary but it did NOT fly, and he still gigs me about it from time to time to this day. I thought only women were supposed to be sensitive about forgotten birthdays and anniversaries! :o)
He's a real pretty gray but I don't have his picture yet. I wanted to get one yesterday but he was out in the creek bottom with his "harem". I'll ask they guy if he can maybe have him brought up to the house when I go pick Bluebell up this weekend so I can get his picture then, because he's also the sire of my young blue roan gelding, Bob. You can see Bob on my "about" page or the FR Saddle Club "Who's Who" page either one.
You may find that with good weather and longer daylight hours, she can be worked more and will settle down some.
Not a clue! It's a mystery, and not the good kind!
