The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FIVE

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I am glad she is doing so much better, : )
We have had a storm here for the past 2 hours, lightening every few seconds. I have never seen anything like it! It is just calming down now, thank goodness. Looking on the bright side, at least my vegetable garden got a good soaking! : )

I love watching lightening storms.
They scare the life out of me, depending on how bad they are. My dog is so afraid of them that he will hide under the bed, and he's so big that he can't fit. One time he got himself so stuck that we had to take the frame apart to get him out again.

I must admit to being a teensy weensy bit afraid, but it doesnt stop me watching them! Fortunatly we have never shown fear during thunderstorms, so the kids love them! We have however drilled them what to do if they hear a huge train like sound coming!
This is my first to have this light show going on all around me for this long........it is amazing, frightening, but spetacular all at the same time. : )

Deaconjim should be driving home in it right now, I guess that is where my big concerns are, I worry about stuff like that, I guess that is why I cannot go to bed and sleep till I know he is home safe and sound every night.
You probably think I am daft to stay up till midnight every night, knowing I have a 6:30 am wake up call! : )

No, no not at all. My mother works nights, and when I was home, I wouldn't go to sleep until she was in. It's normal.

I experienced a tornado once, and I hope that I never get to again. Scariest thing in the world.

I'm glad your kids are feeling better. I talked to my kindergartner's teacher and she said 4 kids have been out with the same thing. That's a significant number since there's only 13 kids in her class.

Good morning everyone,
Tuffy, the kids are home again today, still slightly sore throats, no fever, but I am not going to make them go to school until they are better.
It is deaconjims birthday tommorow so we have to head to town to buy him something. Tommy is going to pre-school as he is fine now. At least Emma and Jacob get to choose Deaconjims present!
Well I must get tennis shoes on and be out the door........
see u all later!

Becky, were you cleared to be missing today? Where are you?

I just made an appt for our vet to come out in the morning. They're due for shots, and a report of birds with West Nile in our county reminded me of that. This is actually among the first reported cases in the state. We hadn't had it here yet. The horses started getting immunized last year though.

So they are getting the regular 5 or 8 way vaccine and West Nile. Is anyone else on the thread, who is not at a boarding stable or showing horses, vaccinating for strangles? I'm gonna ask the vet about our risk.
