This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I have an outside stall but only if it gets cold or starts raining. (I had called and asked if we could drape a tarp). None of them seem to be bothering him. He's isolating himself.
If no one is bothering him that's good. He needs to be able to rest. I don't know that I'd drape a tarp, that might bother him to have it blowing or rain hitting it.
Didn't know what else to do. She didn't think it was a good idea either and agreed to the stall where not next to a horse if it starts to rain. My husband went back to check on him and just called and asked me if he ate caz he seemed hungry. They were waiting when I left. He may be getting ran off. Eddie going to give him half a scoop. I just wonder if his throat sore. He eats but he's so slow. It took him about 20 minutes to just eat a couple cups of sweet feed.
I like this one, but I can't tell if it includes the bit. I'll call them Monday and get specifics. Thanks.
I have a wide range of bits, some cheap and some not so cheap, but those that come with the bridles are definitely throwaway models. (I don't like those belts, either!)
I do have some cheap headstalls that I really like. They are soft, greasy leather, brass hardware, and the pieces attach together with leather strips, not metal brackets. They were in the $20 range but you had to buy the matching reins separately, they were around $10. I guess if you add a nice bit in there it's not really all that cheap, is it? duhhhh
I'm on the same side of the road as the paint horse farm but too far down for you to be able to see Tuffy. You can see my house when you are traveling north and it's winter. During the summer the trees are too thick to see the house.
Did I miss something? What's the matter with Okie?
Have you checked ebay?
She's one of the untouchables. Yearling that NO ONE has messed with. So, we can't get ahold of her to figure out her problem. But, she has no cuts, no scuffed skin, and no swelling. Hopefully, she just has a foreign 'object'/gravel, under her hoof. Or, maybe she 'sprung' something 'goofing around' in the mud.
If she's not a WHOLE LOT BETTER in the a.m., we'll take 'drastic' measures and play rodeo round-up, then call the vet.
Yeah he picked up some kind of respiratory bug. He's on antibiotic pills. If he isn't ok by Monday my vet will probably put him on something else but I think he's kicking it. He's still sick but I'm seeing some improvement. I have just enough knowlege to scare me. I worry about him colicing or floundering or encephalitis (the vet tech gave me that one to fret over:')
"I worry about him colicing or floundering"
Yeah, I hate it when my horses turn into fish.
All kidding aside, my horse Bud came down with strangles a few years ago, even though he's vaccinated for everything under the sun. He wouldn't eat and he was lethargic so I took his temp, it was 103, so I called the vet out. Started him on antibiotics and he was much better in a few days.
"play rodeo round-up"
Wish I was there to watch the fun.
oops. I say stanglers instead of strangles too
Stanglers is a good one but I can't think of a smartaleck comeback for that one.
He was 103 this evening. Yesteday when he was down he got over 105.
Hey, you have any idea what it cost for a room over the track when a race going on?
Wow! 105 is almost off the charts. Bud wasn't that sick, he was just a little lethargic and off his feed.

I'm having a little fun on this thread.
Where's Keith:')
At the car race track or the horse race track?
