This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
For which I would be eternally grateful:).

Heh heh!! I'm sure I'd fall off the thing and knock a knot on my head. But I would like to ride on it once.
Musta been a small gun...apparently the guy stuck it right up against his head and it still didn't kill him.
I'm gonna ride around here in a bit and see if I can find the exact location. It was pretty funny seeing a news crew in front of my house though...I thought "Oh Lord, what do they know that I don't??" Ha ha ha!
It's really not that hard, but a Harley, even a sportster is a pretty big bike to learn on. Smaller ones would not be so intimadating. Altho I learned on a sportster, knowing what I know now, I'd recommend someone wanting to learn to pick a smaller model.
Becky
That would make me nervous too:)
It probably was a small caliber gun. Did you see the thread last week about the guy that shot himself 5 times, then took a 10 minute drive to a bridge and jumped off it. He died from drowning.
He had shot himself 3 times in the head and 2 times in the chest with a 22. The shots to the head didn't even enter his skull. It's one of those things that's really sad, but you can't help but laugh a bit.

Can anyone say Darwin Award?
As long as you keep it up straight they are nothing to hold up. There is just a point that if you lean it to far, even a man the size of Mack or your dad, couldn't hold up even a sportster. I dropped mine twice, and Mack had to have help getting it back up. If you can reach the ground comfortably keeping them up is not a problem.
Becky
I know, I saw that! Poor fella.
Mack had to put a "hugger" kit on mine before I could reach the ground. I think you can buy them lowered too. But, IMO, it's more fun riding on the back anyway.
Becky
I agree, you get to hug that way! Also, if traffic gets busy you can just close your eyes..........can't do that on the front! LOL
I've only ever had a little bike. : )
I just came in from bathing Harley, errrrrrrr, horses can sure be frustrating when it comes to hoses:)
I can tell this shampoo really whitened his mane and tail, but I'm not sure I'm going to like what it did to his body color. Made him more silver then gold, which was what I thought it might do. But the bottle said it was good on palaminos, so I gave it a try. Harley was not one of those real gold palaminos, but he had some in him.
Oh well, at least he's clean. Of course I got some of this very very purple shampoo in his forelock, but now he won't let me rinse it out:), He may look like a punk rocker for awhile.White mane with a purple forelock.
Becky
I didn't get to ride on bikes much with my husband Supposedly, I distracted him:')
LOL...a "hugger" kit is shorter shocks to make the bike "hug" the road. IOW's is makes it shorter so short people can reach the ground:)
Not sure if you understand that or not.
Becky
When I feel bad I like to lay on the trampoline.
I like to lay on the trampoline, too!! Isn't that funny.
Since ya'll were talking about motorcycles, I had a funny incident happen. I was driving down the highway, pulling a horse and trailer, minding my own business, when I looked into the side mirror. There was something coming up in the next lane and coming at an unbelievable rate of speed. I couldn't tell what it was until it was closer and it was some idiot on a crotch rocket, had to be going 120 miles an hour, in a wheelie. I kid you not, he was doing a wheelie going that fast. He dropped back down when he got close to me and slowed up when he got next to me. I must have had a heck of a shocked look on my face because he looked at me, smiled and waved then took off again.
Those guys are NUTS.
