This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Oh goodness, no, I wouldn't expect any fast food or anything like that at all. I've always thoroughly enjoyed Irish culture and music, and one of my silly dreams is to be able sit in on a music session in a pub. I play a lot of irish flute and whistle, but I don't know how I well I would be recieved. I've been thinking about staying towards Cork, and staying towards the south.
Actually, I did want to go study at University College Cork, but things just didn't work out, and I've had it in my system to get to Ireland eventually.
A lot of the horse books that I had as a kid came from publishers in England and Ireland, and one of the things that I got it set into my mind to do was to eventually go ride over there. Don't ask me why.
Yeah, I'm going to start checking places out on weekends. If I find something I like then my husband will go look at it. He doesn't shop well:')
Go for it then:') You might want to ping our horse doc.
No, I'm using the WebTV. Mack had to run to town to get some cables and adapters, and God knows what. I'm once again straightening the house. I swear we are such slobs around here:). The day is gray dreary and rainy, so it seemed a good day to at least try to dust and vacum....but I really don't know why I bother.
Jenny got me a dogwood tree for mothers day, I need to get it planted too.
I probably won't be useing the Mack till next week sometime. I'll let Mack get it down good. Is all I want is to be able to post pictures. I still may get the other one, but I'm not sure if he wants to have to mess with setting it up for me. I don't know what he is going to do with that one my dad gave us. From what we have learned now, it's junk.
Well, I'm rambling to keep from getting the sweeper out so I's best be closing this.

As for going in a pub and joining in, you would be most welcome, the more the merrier (literally) is the motto.
A fish and Chip shop is the most you might find in the way of fast food. Pubs almost always serve bar food and mostly it's great. Homecooked and expect to wait! Some pubs (INNS) have accomodation too.
Expect most everything to be closed on Sundays and it used to Wednesday afternoons too! If you stay in a cottage, most of the time the electric is on a meter and you will need to find out the coinage required beforehand as those meters eat coins like kids eat sweeties (candy).
However, if I were to reccomend anything to someone, it would be that to experience true Ireland, stay in a cottage and find your own way about the place. : )
LOL...Oh my, I swear that was an accidental typo:). Just caught it.
Becky
I totally agree with him. If you were to stay in a hotel and do the tourist things they suggest, you wouldn't see Ireland in it's true state.

Don't forget, our steering wheels are on the right hand side of the car, and we drive on the left hand side of the road! Oh and you can NOT turn right at a red light! EVER! LOL
I hope you do get to go!
I've been forgetting to mention.
You know I keep my grandson on Fri. My DIL, Kristy always goes and rides her horse on that day. She usually goes to a ranch where she and my son ride alot and know all the people. Lots of times she'll work cows with them on Fri.'s
Well this Fri. she helped them get their cows gathere, and was off her horse helping give shots or something. A smallish size cow got rather wild and when they let is out of the shoot, it ran over her. I guess it was standing on her foot when she fell, so her whole leg got twisted. We think it has either torn legimates, or muscles in her knee. It is swollen and turning black. She has a good friend that is an RN. She said no matter which it is (she made the diagnoses) alternating moist heat and iceing it would be what the doctor's would tell her to do and stay off it.
Anyway the question now is, will it be well enough for her to do the clinic. This RN said if she stays off it for 2 wks she might be OK by then. How does a mother of an 18 month old stay off her leg? How is she going to get her horse in shape? I'm sure Kristy will go no matter what, she's pretty tough:), but just dam! What a bad time for this to happen.
Becky
This is a good area to stay in....

What an awful thing to happen, the timing could not be worse.
Hope she is ok by the time the clinic comes around, but those kind of injuries can sometimes take longer than breaks to heal completly, or to use in the way she would want to.
I have just caught up with your post about your mare starting to show changes.........how exciting!
Dang. If it's just muscle it will heal faster than ligaments... and sometimes knee damage needs fixed by surgeons.
At least she's the rider and not the horse - she stands a chance of being able to ride it depending on how bad it was. Getting her a brace that will support it can't hurt.
Well, I'm back and forth on if it really is a change in her or just my wishful thinking:)
I would think if it was changing it would look different today than it did yesterday, and it doesn't. So that may be a false alarm. But she is due Thurs. so I'd think something would be happening. And I'm sure of the date now.
Becky
She did put a brace on it and is using crutches. This RN said the same thing you did, it would be better for it to be muscles then legimates. I guess if she got it exrayed they could tell??? We are just not all that big on doctores:)
She's such a little bitty thing. Probably 105 soaking wet. It wouldn't take much to knock her down.
Becky
Funny thing, I've have been worrying in the back of my head, that one of our horses would come up lame or sick and not be able to go. It never occured to me that one of us could be down.
I'm with you tho, that beings as she will be a rider, she should be able to manage. We all might just have to do her saddleing and mucking and whatever ground work she would have to do. Thank goodness the guys are going too.
Becky
If it were me, I'd wrap it tight, just to keep too much fluid and swelling from collecting there. And lots of anti-inflammatories... Bute her ;~D
Bute her....LOL....it would probably be the best thing. DSMO too:)
She said it wasn't hurting as much today as yesterday. So maybe it won't be so bad.
