This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Why are you banned from the barn? That seems rather silly.
I learned something yesterday. Did you know that when you stick a probe up their butt you need to hold on to the tail:')
I now have the stall next to the chickens :') if it starts raining.
This little one has got some MAJOR speed to her! At grain time, they both run full tilt, and that baby ALWAYS outruns momma! LOL!
Well we are heading to SONIC to totally destroy all my good food habits this week!
Onion rings and chilli cheese tater tots,............here I come! mmmmmmmm
Catch up with you later!~
Have you already come through and gone? Did you see my exit? That paint horse farm next to I35 is gorgeous and he as the most beautiful babies right now. His website is www.fossilgatefarms.com.
I hate that adult bookstore crap. Why do they have to advertise that in big neon letters?
I don't like those cheap bits, Sharn. The headstalls are fine but I'd get better bits to go with them.
I love Jeffers!
I had Sonic for lunch, too! I had a chili cheese wrap and some of my kids tater tots. Those chili cheese wraps are awesome.
I like this one because it says it has solid brass hardware:
I have a nylon one like this and I love it. You can take the bit out and still have a good halter to tie with out on the trail. They're not showy, but they're functional.
Does the baby have a sore right front foot? I know you said she runs around like crazy but I just wondered coz she looks she's not bearing weight on it in both pictures.
I totally agree! I don't know why they even bother putting bits on those bridles. The first thing I did on every bridle I ever bought that came with a bit was chuck the bit and get a good one. Most of 'em are just cheap little light weight nickel plated steel ones that are mostly just for show, kinda like most belts that come with pants. I chuck those too. I'm just picky I guess.
I stopped at Stars (a sonic) and got tator tots on the way home. Nothing else though:')
Yeah. I came thru late and real early the next morning. I couldn't remember which side of the loop you said . I saw those paints the next morning. A beautiful site. I was wondering if one might be Tuffy?:')
We vaccinate once a year for 2way sleeping sickness, (rhinopneumonitis (EHV-1 & EHV-4),tetanus and flu (one shot) and once a year for west nile. The recommendations this year are going to be twice a year for west nile I think. Then pregnant mares get pneumabort three times during pregnancy.
We quarentine new horses though, and sick horses. Remeber, we are in a different part of the country too, the sleeping sickness, etc isn't real common out here.
I just came home from the stables. The owner told me her themometer wasn't working but she was concerned he was getting hot this afternoon so she wet him down. I went back to give him his PM medicine. I only have a digital and it's slow. I pulled it out at 102.9 caz he was getting restless and wet him down again. He dropped to 102. He's getting a little stronger though.
Do horses gang up on the weak like dogs do? Yesterday Okie kept backing his butt up to the hay bale and now he stands in the far corner by himself. He goes out of his way to walk around the other horses. Usually it's like the parting of the REd Sea for him.
Is there any place there at all where you can isolate him? He's weak right now and not feeling good so will be low man on the totem pole.
There was a Paso I would have been interested in,just to see what it went for, but it was #81 and they were only on #5 after a 4 hr.tack auction. I had to get out of there.
MissTargets, it was great meeting you and your family. I'm curious as to wether or not you found a horse. That appy was a nice looking horse.
