This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
:) - don't know if that would work or not. Today she is actually still 10 days early so although I'm losing a lot of sleep, every day she delays is better.
We have the DVR set to record the derby, will watch it when we get home. I'm hoping we are not real late getting back, hopefully between 4-5. I'm anxious to try that shampoo on Harley:) I'm sure Mack will be anxious to get that computer home to see if he can get it to work. If he does, I get his old one, no more sticky keys:). We will set it up in here on my table I have in the living room.
Becky
Cool! I'll hope for that! We need you to be able to post pictures easier... caps or no caps ;~D
Your post reminded me that I had forgot to check Belle's bag when I feed this morning.
This could very well be wishful thinking, but I think she's changing under there:). This is going to be hard to describe but,
You know how when they have no milk thier boobs are just flaps of skin with a teat that is flat. OK, today, all that still looks the same, but the skin that goes from her underside, where there is still hair, then goes into where there is no hair and becomes those flaps that will fill. They look a bit puffy today, and feel like something is in them. Is that where they would start to fill from? or am I grasping and just didn't notice that before. Do you have a clue what I am refering too:)
Becky
AS closely as I've been checking her I think I would have noticed this, and I always reach up and give her a feel to see if everything feels the same:). But then again, I could just be getting desperate for anything:)
Becky
Oh, to have pictures of her, so I would know if I'm dreaming or not:)
Becky
I sounds to me like she is starting to bag up :)
The mammary glands or whatever they are called, run along the belly to the bag and sometimes you will see them fill or swell.

Hey Becky, have you seen Lance Graves website lately? It looks like he has a new baby. Maybe he isn't poofy after all.
No I haven't seen it. Maybe the baby is adopted???
Becky
We just got home. We went ahead and did grocery shopping since we were coming by the store. Won't have to do it tomorrow. Got them put away the horses fed and supper started.
Thanks for helping Mack out with my dad's printer. I know where I get my computer ineptness from:). Dad just goes and buys new stuff.
MACK is working on the computer dad gave us. He said he had it fixed but he couldn't get it to work so he just got a new one. So there may be nothing wrong with it and it has USB ports:)
We haven't watched the derby yet, was it good?
Becky
The Kentucky Derby was a surprise upset! I won't tell ya, in case you haven't heard.
Who's had any experience with laminitis?
Mine aren't in any way foundered, but the grass in the pasture has become lusher in the last couple weeks so I've been wondering about how much is too much. When we went out this afternoon their feet felt warm. Not ~hot~, but not cool. We closed them into the paddock. Feeling their feet an hour later, they were cool.
Are they borderline getting too much grass or is this too mild of a symptom and just normal temperature fluctuations because they had been moving around? If they were warm from protein overload, I wouldn't have thought they'd cool after just an hour standing in the paddock.
Well I'm back . Long drive. I had a funny dream last night and you and your horses were in it. Yall were at my place and in the paddock behind the barn and it had a high security fence with barbed wire and the works. I was workiing on the other side with Okie and you kept aggravating me galloping up and down the fence line on pony. You were "whooping it up".The last time yall came back you had Pony jump the fence from an angle. I was scared caz I didn't think yall would make it but you just cleared. When she landed it was legs out and on her belly. The funny part was that Cyn And Bay there and fell down with their legs up in the air rolling and, laughing. I think I'm spending too much time on the horse thread:')
Wow... You've got some stuff goin' on in your head! LOL!
I don't know but that may be the case. All it says it that it's a new addition to his family.

Yeah I figured when I went to bed I was thinking about you talking about riding pony , and knowing what a good rider you are I figured you could make it work. Okie had just showed his butt (he's ready to be rode now)and the owner had been talking to me about horse stealing going on around . I can't figure out where the horses laughing came from though:')
I like how you make me sound ;~D
...but I must say I am not sure I am all that ;~D
Did you see that race??? Wasn't it exciting!
Unfortunately, I have tons of experience with founder. George the pony is a chronic case. Best way to tell if it's fixing to happen is by checking the digital pulses. You can feel them at the fetlock joint, on the back, down kind of low, on both sides. Hold your thumb and your forefinger where they are 2 inches apart (or so) and place them lightly on the fetlock area. Just keep running them up and down until you feel it. They should be barely discernable but if the horse is fixing to founder, they'll be pounding. This is how I always tell with George but I don't let him on grass at all, unless it's winter. He'll still founder if he gets too hot so I hose him down a few times a day if it's really hot.
If any of your horses is gonna founder, it'll be the pony, and sooner or later that pony IS going to founder. There's only 2 kinds of pony, those that have foundered and those that haven't yet but are going to.
