The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FIVE

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I guess it's beyond me why anyone would ~want~ to live in the city. I can understand wanting modern day conveniences, but there are plenty of rural areas that have good hospitals and schools!

Maybe I'm the weird one and my mom is the sane one! *laughing*

People might want to live in the city because of transportation issues, or to be closer to their job... or maybe just beacuse they like the city. I may find myself going down to DC once I graduate, but what I really want is a nice horse property. (Don't we all?) I really love Boston and I lke New York. I like Cambridge because of it's quaint brownstones and it's right on the Charles, but it's too darn liberal for my blood.

Where the hell are all these people coming from

From Ohio and north. In the last six months I must know 15 people who have bought houses or condos in Fla. One guy bought a penthouse in Marco before it was done (I did the loan at my bank)for 3.2 mil and sold it in two months for 5 mil. It's insane. People are making 40-50% on these houses.

I would invest there but I can't help but think the bubble has to burst soon.

A high rise apartment building was just built in downtown Fort Worth, in the bank building that was nearly destroyed by a tornado a few years ago. Guess who was at work in that bank building when the tornado hit! Keith was in there.

Good morning,

Got up at my 4am check and watched the mare go from laying down to over on her side. Made a pot of coffee, woke Bob and we watched her for 30 minues (in the camera).

She finally rolled, got up and is standing at her stall door waiting for breakfast. I wonder if you can hire camera sitters like you do pet sitters and baby sitters?

Here we were, getting all excited about a baby born on Derby Day :) Well, we still have 18hours or so to make it.

Morning,
Brownsville just a sleepy town when I moved here in 1990. We live in a sub. neighborhood but it was just us out here. Now...It's bad. All the shopping stuff nice but it takes forever to get anywhere.
I'm going to eat lunch with my dad today. It's about 5 hours from now. I postponed last week. I either slept wrong or we have some really bad weather coming in. My hip bothering me so bad I can hardly walk. Once I get up it gets better though.

LOL, it does seem to play against type, doesn't it? Yes, he's a suit. Maybe that's why he likes being such a goofball here, he has to be so serious all day at work.

Good morning everyone!

Duchess, if we could have worked out the logistics, we'd all have been camera watchers for you!

That would have been so nice :)

What are you doing up so early on a Saturday?

Truth be told, I've been up off and on since about 3.

I fell asleep early, but on the couch. Honey tried to wake me up and I don't remember it clearly but I think I actually growled at him. He's still asleep.

Yeah, I got a log cabin. Only have 16 acres, though. Land is coming up for sale around me once in a while but it has gotten rather expensive because of a gated community that is being developed on the lake across the road from my place.

The Cliffs

Check out this web site and you'll see why land prices are skyrocketing around my house. I'm afraid that I'll be selling and moving within a few years.

Poor man :) My husband has finally lerned to expect that if he wakes me up from a deep sleep. I don't wake up cheerful.

Shoot, if I had the camera working and had known you were up, I could have gotten another couple hours sleep before all the critters started asking for breakfast.

actually growled at him

LOL.

We are getting ready to head up to my dads, for the day. He lives in Grove, and 1 1/2 hours from here.

I would invest there but I can't help but think the bubble has to burst soon.

It's crazy and there doesn't seem to be any end in sight. It's all these rich baby boomers from the northeast that are retiring all at once PLUS the huge influx of hispanics.

Plenty of multi-million dollar properties and plenty of illegal aliens to clean the houses and keep up the landscaping.

I don't think the bubble will burst anytime soon.

Our weather is looking pretty good next week. Probably starting Mon. night, bagged or not, I'll sleep in the barn, to keep an eye on Belle. If she hasn't foaled by next weekend, I'll probably just leave her on her own, because, unless she bags, there won't be anyway to know when, and I don't particularly an to be out there indefinitly:)

heh....the 'old-timey' recipe for hurrying delivery for humans is cod-liver oil mixed with OJ.

Wonder if it'd work for a horse??? LOL!

Have a good day... I think we're gonna take down the temp fence around the new grass in the yard, because it's good and strong now.

Then watch the derby!

Maybe she'll foal du really nice weather, with luck even in the afternoon. I can't figure things out this year. The wax fell off of BamBam's bag yesterday, but her bag is much bigger.

Have a safe drive.
