This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

You can ask what he did to get banned... FRMail Admin Moderator... and/or Jim Robinson.
They ~may~ answer.
I think it's a banning. I just noticed it today and he's been gone a long time. I can't get him to admit (to me or anybody else) that he's actually a buddy of mine.
How can you tell if somebody's been banned? Do they have a list or something?

It looks like he was being his usual smart ass self (;~D) on Terri Schiavo threads. Anyone who looked at his other recent posts would see that he appeared to only post smart ass kinds of things, and though that in itself is not usually enough to get banned, there was very little reasonableness or patience with anyone on TS threads.
I went back to find his old posts and when you click on his name, you get the "account banned or suspended" notice.
Dang girl, you're good. I wish I was more computer savvy.
I'll go and check out your link...
I didn't see anything there that was bad at all.
Well, It might have just been lack of patience for any disruption during the height of the Terri thing. That may be all there was to see. There weren't any pulled posts on the remainder of the two Terri threads we can see, but he may have posted elsewhere something that got pulled and we can't see it. I can tell what a pulled post said if I see it, but there's no way to search for them by name.
Well, I'm trying another bit on Harley today when I do arena work. If I learn anything at the clinic we are going to I hope it's a better understanding of bits.
The bit I trail ride him in is just too much in the arena, I've been working him in a full check snaffle in the arena and that's not enough to get him to rate down like he should. He rates down, but not quick enough.
I'm going to try a long shank snaffle today. I don't like them a whole lot, I think the longer the shanks the less you get in turns....but that's the only other thing I have.
Any suggestions? I know sooooo little about bits and how they work.
Becky
Okay, another thing to add to the benchmark of when mares will foal. Waxing up apparently doesn't mean anything this year. BamBam is still pregnant, still waxed up, and has been since Monday.
I got the impression that alot of people bit the dust during the TS thing.
Becky
Less of what exactly?
What bit do you ride trail in, and what is 'too much' about it?
Describe the issue. Me no understand.
So inevitable doesn't mean predicable ;~D
LOL...this year just must be weird. Belle has still not bagged at all. And she is due next week.
Now I'm wondering if I should send in my entry fee for that ride. The time frame of how long she could go over would put her into that week end. I found out last night so far the have 35 entries. They take 60. So I may hold off sending it in till week after next. If she hasn't had it by then I'll for sure have her vet checked. I don't want to be gone when she has it.
Becky
You're right about that. Some bit it, some chose to eat it, and some just had it thrown at them. ;~D
I picked up a double-shot mocha and a blueberry muffin on my way in this morning... feeling much better now!
I haven't had breakfast yet - but you just reminded me!
Can you get a refund on your entry fee if you can't make it. Sometimes a vet note will work. I told someone I couldn't stay long at a function because I had a mare due to foal. The answer was, well so do I, a couple as a matter of fact. I didn't say anything but was thinking, well why on earth are you three states away then? LOL I know mares foal all the time without my assistance, but I just feel like I need to be there in case.
I like haveing enough bit to KNOW I can get them stopped in an emergency. Harley is very light/sensitive mouthed. It doesn't take much. IN the arena for barrels, when you go to asking for the turns and for quick stops, this bit causees his to really throw his head up. On trail, I don't ask for those kind of stops or turns, so he doesn't get pulled on so much. I know I should work on getting me to not pull so much doing barrels, it's one of those things I need to work on, but in the process I don't want to mess him up
With the snaffle he just isn't responding quickly. Once again if I learned to expect that and adjust my self accordingly the snaffle might work. But there is just alot of stuff to remember in a very short time and I'm not proficent at putting it all together.
In a long shank snaffle, I think you have to pull more to get the tight turns. I don't like doing that.
I pull too much for the correction bit in the arena and not enough with the snaffle (I think my main problem is I forget to work in back and forth and tend to pull straight back), and I actually think with the long shank you need to pull even more the with snaffle, but since you have a curb with the long shank you get more rate. Make sense:)
