The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FIVE

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Oh, how did you do that so fast? I just don't have the patience to scroll that much. I've seen people find things quick, and wondered if you knew how to do a search somehow.

Thanks again. I was checking to see if that was the date I bred Belle. If I had the dates right. I knew I would have posted that I did it, and I did:)

If you click on a post number, it'll say

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1367619/posts?page=3302#3302 in the URL for your post 3302, for example... well, if you wanted to see what the date was for post 1000, just click up in the URL and type in 1000 after page=

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1367619/posts?page=1000

I just jumped through it till I was near the date and then you can scroll through by 100s.

I was actually slowed down because I started at the end of the thread and went backwards, and it was in the first half. ;~D

Thanks:)

I really appreciate your finding that for me:)

Jenny was here and we were looking at Belle, and I told her the only thing I was worried about was if I got the dates wrong. I've been worrying I had the month wrong, and that would mean she would be due around the time we will be gone to that clinic.

Even now if she carries it longer she could be pushing that date, but I can't imagine it going to much overdue.

Ah... well, it does get a little sticky trying to make plans to go.

Who'll feed for you while you're gone?

Hey, those Boa Boot things are cool. I wasn't on here in June of last year so I missed 'em. Are they any good?

Yes, I should be able to give Winnie another hit.

Do you know anyone up there with good hay that will deliver down here? All the hay guys are out around here. The ground is still cold and we've had zero rain so no hay.

The barn is being roofed as we speak. I went down Sunday to see how they were coming and LORDY the barn is bigger than our cabin !!!!! Pretty fancy for one damn horse (lol)

By Friday I suspect they will be done, then I have to get the electrician down there and the cement guy. I'm shooting for Memorial Day Weekend for taking Waylon down.

How long should I leave him in the paddock and barn before I attempt taking him out on our trails? I don't want to spook him.Any advice?

The sooner you can get him out, all the better. It will all be new to him, but maybe stick close in case of trouble. Will you be going out alone? I would love to come down and ride with you. Thanks for the invite. Maybe after August. Are you close to a State Park or Forest?

I have a story I keep forgetting to tell. Around here, we have a problem with Scotch Broom. It's an invasive, fast growing shrub that is really a weed. It was brought in many years ago now by the Dept of Transportation, and they planted it all along the freeways as landscaping. Now it takes over any open ground and is a problem within 5 miles of the freeway. OK well, the other thing it does is bloom. Yellow. And not a particularly pretty yellow, IMHO, a bright caution sign yellow. When I moved in here nearly four years ago, this stuff was 10 feet tall and thick to the point of not being able to walk through in the whole pasture. The stuff behind Bay was cut at the same time the pasture was but allowed to come back.

The other day a woman was standing out there between the scotch broom and my fence and I stepped out to see if she wanted to say anything to me. She says "this shrub sure is beautiful! What is it? I've been seeing it all morning!" I said "You ain't from around here are ya?"

Heh... She was from Canada.

We're not close to a state park but we have 83 acres of trails and access to our neighbors 92. I don't think you'd tire of the trails.

We have that Multirosa Flora or something like that. It was planted as a "living fence". Took over also. Isn't there some kind of "kinsua" that grows in the South that in very invasive too.

I'll ping the Southerners.
