Drooling out of her mouth too?
Did you answer about whether she's had shots and which things you've vaccinated for? Any swelling in the lymph nodes in her throat?
She seems alright again, I have just checked on her. I am not sure what she has had, I was going to ask the vet that. She is now grazing and doing ok. no word from the vet though......: ( Wish deaconjim was here.
The rest of the horses are ok, no sign of anything. Eating and drinking as normal.
It's dark outside and when I last went the flashlight really spooked her, I dont want to attempt to feel her glands alone trying to hold a flashlight. No word from the vet yet ; (
I wish I understood it. Hopefully the others will have ideas.
I'll take some pics tomorrow. She had a 103. 6 temp. and that glazed look today. She is still coughing and bring up snot. I have called and called my vet. The baytril isn't doing much but keeping her the same. She has had 2 treatments. I went over to my vets and they said he went to the doctor and would call me when he got back. I hope he is ok but he didn't so I had a little left and started her on what Okie was taking and the house vet going to send me more out tomorrow. I was looking for something to mix it in and found a bunch of empty jars of it all over the place.
I'm just a lurker, but I'll be praying for your horses.
Sorry to hear about your horse, hope the baytril starts working soon. : )
Thankyou.
You're most welcome!
Thanks
(((Cindy)))
Well all 3 children are fast asleep, so I am heading outside to go check on Misty again. I'm going to turn of the flashlight when I get near and hopefully she should come close to me. I think I'll just stay with her for a bit to see how she is doing. I still havent heard from our vet. Guess he's busy. (I have phone with me).
Deaconjim gets in about midnight, so he'll probably go look see then with me too.
I'll update you all later or tommorow.
Sharn
Sorry she's not improving faster. Strangles is a bad bug... definately not something I want to go through.
I hope she turns the corner soon, as well as all the other horses in the barn. What's the word on the foals there? It can be really bad for them, have they stayed clean of it?
Take it easy, Rose.
I hope the vet calls soon to set your mind at ease!
I'll look forward to word by the morning.
Evening Ruthy!
I'm glad you called your vet. I don't think the baytril working here. She had two shots Sat and not any better. Well maybe she isn't wheezing as loudly but she's still real sick. Today, I put on gloves and washed her face and her nares out. It was nasty to get started but then it was ok because it made her feel so much better. I also put some vasoline on the areas where the snot dries and wiped what I could with fly spray. Nothing else I can think to do. I we don't stay on top of this one I'm afraid I could lose her. I was scared about Okie at first but soon I could tell he's recovering. This one though... She was walking around a little and eating hay when I left though. I guess the shower perked her up. When I got there she was in the far pasture buried in sticker limbs under a tree. I couldn't get her to back out. I literally crawled thru to get to her and had to break branches to get her to turn.
She probably just has a cold or allergies from all this weather changes but it's good to have her checked. Did you take her temp?
*sheepish grin* Hi!
Ya caught me in here! :-)
BamBam is waxed up, sunken in, looks like she may foal tonight - 25days early I believe :(
