The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FIVE

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Yes, it is. That horse is dead now but he was one big sucker. Ian Millar needed a big horse, he was like 6'6" and would look dorky on anything much smaller.

Look how big his feet and thighs are in the pic I posted. He had some power back there to get over those 6 foot jumps.

I dunno... his name and a farm name or team name probably. He was on the Olympic team for years, they probably have monogrammed stuff.

One of the bigger morons is back on the nursing thread. She's gotta be playing dumb now. Nobody is that stoopid.

Congrats on winning a ribbon. Sounds like it was some tough competition. Those open shows, can be harder to win, than a breed show. They are both gorgeous geldings. As with any type of competition, you must practice and work hard for that finesse, that makes a winner. Maybe Prez will get a work out now. :')

I have just got on here, first time this weekend. So sorry to hear of your troubles, as for your thoughts that you should have left Twister to the previous fate, you know deep down that is not true, you gave Twister a loving home, a secure place to stay where friendship and trust was begining to show. I know you must be heartbroken, I would be, but dont put yourself down. If I was in your place, I would have done the exact same thing as many on here would. : )
I hope Markies and your injuries are not to severe. make sure you get your arm looked at, I broke my arm and for 3 weeks continued to use it the best I could, when i finally went to the hospital they re-broke it and months later it still isnt right. I think I have some nerve damage and its probably because it set the first time crooked.
Please take care of yourself!~ : )

Hey Rose:), are you all having a cool spell to. I had to get out my coats again the last two days:(. Tomorrow is suppose to be rainy and cold, and Tues, cool.

I'm beginning to think spring is not really going to ever get here and stay. I bet it jumps from cool to hot overnight.

Hi Becky,
We had our cool weather at the begining of the week, its now shorts weather and that should be the norm till September here. Its in the upper 70s and getting hotter! I am already longing for the mountains!

Thanks, Rose. I'm OK. So's Markie.

Hubby went to take care of burial duty this a.m.

In the time it took me to hobble towards the house, and Mark to get to Pete... Twister slipped the surly bonds of Earth, and kissed the Face of God.

It seems that I was holding her back, by being there. In less than an hour, she had broken free. FOREVER.

I still blame myself. The meat wagon was just a form of euthenasia. By saving her, I gave her a taste of hope/dreams/well-being/love/people don't hate 'me'. What GOOD was it??? I'm having a hard time reconciling my self to the idea that we snatched her from the jaws of certain death, just so that she would face certain death a couple of months later.

She was the 'least' of the horses. Ugly, skinny, pitiful, hoof horrors, stand-offish. But I so loved her. And I rejoiced in every little step she took towards 'normalacy'. She blessed my heart every time she whinnied and came running when the 'snack wagon' showed up...and I gave prayers of utmost thanksgiving to see that. I NEVER forgot to thank God for her progress. NEVER...

I guess I just need time to sort through things. And in THAT area, I'll also be OK.

If you ask me, it beats the heck out of a frightened crammed slaughterhouse being shoved along and kicked at with panic all around you.

Hey - we went riding this afternoon!

We decided the pony was real good at desensitizing the horses to a horse running off ahead, and then barrelling up from behind again, running past, kicking at us... Maybe that doesn't happen on most trail rides, but you never know ;~D

Hair, I KNOW what you're sayin'.

But, the slaughter house would have been a LOT quicker than what I did to her. I'm just not so sure I did right by her, to prolong the inevitable.

If your life has been a horror, and you find yourself in another horror(slaughter), it's just part of what you've known.

If your life has been a horror, and you find HOPE, and THEN you find horror again, THEN WHAT?????

I'll be back in a little bit. I have to run the kids through showers for school. (fun, fun, fun)
