This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Great shots!
Great pics Sharn! Those boys sure are growing like weeds. I wouldn't worry about the climbing on the back thing. Fillies do it too sometimes. I think it's just a stage that all foals go through when learning how to play. The first thing they have to play with is Mom.
Speaking of climbing on backs, the cows in the adjoining pasture are humping each other like mad. And that's the funny part, they're COWS humping other COWS, not bulls. And they're making all these really strange noises. It's like a cow orgy out there! I'm glad I was by myself or it'd be embarrassing.
Yes, climbing up on mom or anyone else, including you, is a very normal thing... so beware, the little guys will at least try to get ya!
They are sure growing fast! i'm 5ft 8 so it gives you some idea of the size of Adge!
We have cows in the field next to us, Lightning plays tag along the fence line with them! I love cows, my grandparents (whom I lived with as a child for half of each year), had a dairy and I would love to have some of my own one day. I intend to study about black angus and hopefully raise some. Deaconjim has a bull in a field down from us, called T-bone! He is so big and strong looking but about as much use as a fence post as he is sterile! LOL
Youch! I had better beware! Adge sneaks up behind me most days! I havent seen him trying to sow his oats, just Thunder.
Well its 11 mins past 10pm and I have just realised that although I cooked pizza for the kids tonight, I didnt have any. So I had better go and make myself something.
hope that I didnt post too many pics....they were not great, my hand/arm still doesnt work as it should but I am scared to go and have it looked at again. I hate doctors and hospitals.
Have a great night!
Sharn
Checking in one last time for the night.
Great pictures. They do grow so fast.
Good night.
Becky
Goodnight Becky! : )
Good night everyone...
I always make sure they know to respect my space when I'm halter training them when they're about a week old, so I've never had any problem with the little buggers trying to climb on me, but I have had problems with them wanting to put their mouth on me (aka BobTheBiter). Blade didn't want to bite, he wanted to lick you all the time and still does if you'll let him. The colts seem to be worse about it than the fillies.
I went out this afternoon and gave the filly some more of the pro-biotics and put her halter on her again and ran the little battery powered clippers all over her. I wasn't clipping, just getting her used to the vibration and noise. She gets a good scratching when we're done and seems to enjoy it. She seems to just take it all in stride so I'm glad.
Wow! I was just thinking to myself before you said that that either you were very short, or Adge was very tall. He's gonna be a whopper when he gets grown!
G'night everyone!
Good morning.
Pretty babies, horses and human:)
Frog, Duchess, Rose: I was wondering how soon some of you started haltering your foals. Looking at Dots pictures yesterday, I think she must have only been 2-3 days old when I put one on her. I don't remember exactly. I know I attatched the lead rope a day or so after the halter. I didn't put any pressure one it, just let her get the feel.
Becky
I put one on this filly the day she was born, while I was doing all my other imprinting stuff, and I've put it on her for a few minutes every day since. I'll probably start with lead training next week.
Beautiful baby! Her name is Liliah, pronounced like "Lilly-ah"?
