This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I don't think so! Now I remember the part about throwing it up on the roof being good luck, but I didn't then. I couldn't even remember who said it.
It sounds alot like the old saying I heard about throwing a newly gelded stallion's testicles out in front of him so he won't always be looking behind himself for them. I wonder what it makes them do when you throw them to the dogs?! Probably look for the nearest dog to stomp. LOL!
I'll take it as a sign of good luck that she was born alive and healthy, thankyouverymuch! ;o)
I don't know. I've never really looked at one closely before. I just found them, kinda looked at the general size and said, "yep, that looks like all of it" and scooped them up with with a shovel and buried them. I don't know why I decided to spread this one out and photograph it, other than I figured it would make for an interesting discussion on the thread.
I'll post a picture when I get home tonight -
Funny how that becomes something you always think about when running up against something odd or differnt:) I miss my camera. I will probably borrow Charlies when it's closer to Belle's turn.
Becky
Outstanding - I presume you are at the hospital taking pictures for us :)
"You know, frankly ladies, I am tired of both of your butts."
"I tell ya, girlfriend, I didn't think there'd be a man alive that wouldn't want ~one~ of us..."
HI, The tongue thing is weird isnt it. I thought it looked like another tongue!
We threw ours on the shed roof as someone said it was a good luck thing! LOL
Thunder came out steaming in a complete bag like the one you spread out He had to poke a hole to get his nose out! Sugar lost the afterbirth about 2 hours later.
Very exciting isnt it!~

The placenta looks like it may be in the middle of the right hand side of the picture. It is like raw steak, very thick. Check it is whole!
I dont mind at all! : ) brings back good ( nervous) memories seeing that pic again. : D
I thought it might be Becky who told me to throw it on the roof! LOL
You ought to do a horse picture book with captions! Those were hilarious! Let me know when you do and I'll buy a copy! : )
LOL,,,those are classic, especially the first one of Bay:) I love it.
Becky
I come on here to talk to you all and I'm just yakking away to myself... : ( Where have you all gone?
I have no idea who told me that abouat throwing that thing on the roof. It was a long time ago, but I remember it being said.
Becky
Hi! So there is life on this site! : )
That happens this time of day, I've noticed. I was suppose to be riding with a neighbor right now but she never showed up. I had the horse saddled and everything. Since it's windy and cool I just unsaddled, I've already rode two today. Rocky didn't seem to mind:)
Becky
For a little while anyway. I'm going to bed early tonight. Celia is coming to ride again tomorrow. 9:00 in the morning. That's going to be a challenge:)
Becky
I was out doing poop management... horse, dog... whatever other poop was visible.
Waiting for ecurbh to get home from the feed store. We actually had to buy hay, we've run out. Got to call and see when the local folks we bought from before are doing first cutting.
That idea has some potential ;~D
Just my luck that it gets quiet about now, the boys are in bed and Emma is studying. My chance for saying Hi!
I got some more chickens today, 3 of the hens lay green eggs! I can't remember what breed they are though.
I was hoping to get out with the horses this afternoon, but it rained and rained and rained. It should be pretty tommorow, I hope so as its field day for jacob at his school. It will be his last one as we will be Homeschooling soon! The kids are getting excited about it.
