The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FIVE

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Bay has two different 'settings'. His big working trot that he settles into for endurance is easy to post to. His slow trot is hard to sit ~or~ post to, because it seems he keeps the same cadence but just goes ~up~ instead of forward. If he were to do dressage, this would actually be a ~good thing~, but it's not easy to ride it.

I have another clip that would show ithis, but you're having trouble seeing clips, and the clip is in yet another format, and the album won't accept it because it's too big I think.... and we just have barriers this morning ;~D

But I'd have to learn to use them. I'm not good with anything electronical. Mack just got us new cell phones....lord, it was tramatic just learning that. I'd just figured the old one out and had finallly gotten comfortable with it.

The new one has a walkie talkie in it, that I have to use to talk to him rather then minutes on the cell...more buttons.

Do you think if you e-mailed it to me I'd be able to see it? I don't know if that would make a difference, but we have watched videos on the web before.

I thought maybe Speed was a bay, but now her mane looks red. Maybe it will go back to black?..

Baby hair does strange things. Hope's baby hair went from black to dun with a flax looking mane and tail last summer until she shedded off, then she went into that Wildebeest-looking phase. Gosh, it was awful! She's finally looking half way decent, but she's still got flax looking tips on the ends of her mane and tail. I'll be glad when it all pulls out!

Whoa! My mare is 16hh exactly, but I don't think she weighs much more than around 1200 pounds. She's built like a lot of T'breds, straight up and down! (Not a horse you want to ride bareback!)

I don't find her trot all that difficult, even though it's springy. We hunted in the fall for 3 hours plus, and it just really wasn't a problem. I either posted or stood slightly in the stirrups unless we were going downhill, in which case I ride in the back seat out of caution ;-)

Well, if it can't take very much traffic, that's a good thing to know. I was trying to upload a second clip and it failed doing that. Maybe it's traffic, maybe the clip was too big, maybe that particular interface can't do a lot of simultaneous traffic.

I forgot to tell, that looking at the pictures of Dot, her mane was not "black" as a baby, it looked sort of reddish, but you could tell it was going to be black. Her tail had a some light hairs on the underside too. She actually did not look bay at all as a baby.

No, that's the one on his computer. I'll send it private. when I type it for some reason it makes a link to my e-mail site. I don't know if that would be a good or bad thing in the open:)

I went to the server control panel and it's showing a heavy CPU load currently, but I doubt that a few people watching our little video clip is doing that. It is a shared server, so maybe another site is doing something server-intensive right now.

I just refreshed, and the CPU load is back to green-light status. I don't know.

I think I'd enjoy Hunting if I knew how to jump and had a horse that knew how to jump. There's a hunt club within about an hour's drive from here. I don't know their name, but I think they're based in Huntsville, AL (no pun intended). My only problem is that I'd be afraid I'd break my neck.

Well thanks for trying, but it didn't work:(

I really need to get out of here anyway, and go ride a horse.

See you all later.

WEll, yeah:)

Rusty is going out for a test of his stifle thing. I really want to take him too the clinic, but if he is going he is going to have to start getting a little more intense of workouts. So today, we'll go for an hour, and I'm going to do some long trotting. If everything stays sound, then I will assume the problem is fixed and start working him a little more intensly on trails, then the week or so before we leave take him back to the barrels for some refreshing on them.

If he has any problems between now and then, I'll switch my focus to Harley, who is working good on trails now, but will need alot of work on barrels. I'm hoping that at the clinic I can learn where I'm weak in training them on barrels. I really don't want to take a horse that isn't doing them at all.

The hunting field is NOT the place for you or your horse to learn how to jump! :-D It can get pretty wild and wooly out there sometimes. My mare is Ms. Solid Citizen and dead quiet -- but when she does something monumentally crazy, it's always during a hunt.
