This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Cute Pix - we have a couple who must investigate everything. We're on foal watch tonight. This one will be the first of three we're expecting this year.
Pix to follow...
Oh my - where are you, what kind of horses? Yes, pictures please :)
Foal watch is over - Meara, our dapple bay Hanoverian mare foaled a colt at 11:05 Pacific time. He looks a lot like his Westphalian sire - very dark bay with three white socks and slightly turned back ear tips. He's a handsome little guy.
We'll post photos tomorrow...
Congratulations. Hanoverians are pretty big horses, right? How big is the foal?
Good morning.
We have a slim chance for a freeze tonight, but probably will be in the mid 30's....Buuurrrrrrr...I thought we were done with the cold.

Mornin' Becky,
Supposed to be chilly here, too, 40's or so.
I finally got to ride Tuffy a little this past week, first time in months. He did really well, even picked up both leads when I asked. He did do a little crow hopping but it never got worse than that. My oldest daughter rode him and he did well for her, too. I need to post a pic of her riding him, she looks like a flea up there.
Good pictures.
I'd sure like to see some of the pictures you took of Cyn when you first got her, next to that one of her looking at the chairs. She has really put on some weight, it seems. She looks good.
Becky
I'm suppose to ride today with my neighbor again. With the wind and cooler temps, I wouldn't be surprised if mine were goofy.
Becky
She's worse than a cat that tries to "help"! She looks good too. She's filled out a lot since we saw the first pictures of her.
Today would definitely be a tricky day to ride, it's chilly and windy here, too. Did you get any bad weather the other day, when the cold front came through? We didn't get a drop of rain.
I think a large pony would be perfect for you. Perhaps an Icelandic or Haflinger.
I think we got just that little bit of rain when I was out riding:) Little bitty stinging rain for about 30 minutes. Long enough for me to get back home and unsaddled:)
Becky
We're ALSO supposed to have 'winter weather' tonight. GROSS. They're calling for snow tomorrow. (sigh)
Hey Beaker.
I'm with you on liking the smaller horses better:).
Harley is a great horse, probably the best trained/behaved horse I've ever owned, besides deadhead Rocky:). But I wish he wasn't as tall as he is. I feel like I"m looking down from Pikes Peak on him, and I know he's really not all that tall. Rusty has done more goofy stuff then Harley, but I'm still more comfotable on him. But I realize it's a mind thing.
Now a horse that hangs on the bit...I wouln;t like that at all.
Becky
That one of Cyn at the tent, reminds me of Jake.
The kids pitched tents last year in the horses' field. Of COURSE, Jake had to inspect those new things that 'grew up' in his domain. LOL.
When the girls were inside, he plastered his head against the side, like he was trying to see through the tent. It caused the girls to giggle up a storm. THAT caused Jakie to grab hold of a side seam, and he promptly started shaking it up, down and sideways. It looked as if he was trying to shake them out of the tent!!!
It was hysterical to watch! Horses.(and donkeys) They sure DO bless one's heart, don't they?
You should stay with the smaller breeds, and to hell with what that trainer thinks. I think tiny people on huge horses look as odd as tall people on ponies. Horses and riders need to compliment each other.
JMO:)
Becky
Uh oh.
Is there something unusual about an app's personality? Anything I should be on the look-out for?
LOL:)
Becky
The QH mare that ride I look fine on. She's in the 15 hand range. That I can do. But I really feel awkward on big horses. They can be really nice to ride, and I've ridden a 16h app who's like riding a couch, and I really like riding her, but when I first start out, I feel like a flea on the back of a dog beacuse she's big and broad. I don't think my trainer's opinion is a negative one really so much as a misunderstood one. She'll figure me out soon enough :-)
