This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I still haven't checked out Sarah Lee as a sabino. I have to get "real " pictures. I might do it this weekend.
It will be interesting to hear what you find out - be sure to let us know.
It's nice that people still up:'). My son went to get my DIL from school. I'm babysitting. Earlier, oldest tried to change a channel and pulled the tv and chest over on him tonight. The youngest went running to my room. When his dad opened the door he was behind it and got bumped in the head so I keep checking on them. And to top it all off my 4 y/o gd leaned against the oven and got a small red spot to her arm. I gave them all popcycles. One for comfort and one for ice to their bobos.
Give all of them hugs from me :) Tell them from the library lady!
Good morning
Becky
Good morning!
Good morning... we've been up watching a big group of kids making mischief at the store next door at 4 am. Gidget woke us up, they had their truck backed up to our gate, and they were just cavortin' around, pretending to fight each other, and they started throwing a RR tie around that lines our driveway. I called 911, bunch of deputies came out and asked them twenty questions, but they let them go... Deputies said they were a familiar group and they'll do something stupid eventually, so it was a good call. There were just too many of them, and they were in too much of a rowdy mood for me to want to step out and yell "getoutahere" at them, so I'm glad the deputies came.
Eventful night huh.
I'll be out of here most of the day. My brother is in town, he lives in Las Vegas. I'm going to get JP, and meeting him and my dad in Tulsa...eeek trip to town, for lunch. I have to be at JP's house by 8. Kristy, Jenny, and Blake are going to work cattle with some others at 8:30.
You all have a nice day.
Becky
We will! Will be setting up camp I think, if we stick to that plan!
And you have a good day visiting too!
Try not to get beat up in town!
Hey keith, found your horse!
Thanks. I went to bed right after my post. I slept with the boys until the parents got back. Everyone ok this morning. The 5 y/o says he wasn't climbing. He is usually very honest. Maybe the chest just gave way.
Cindy, is your horse gaited? And which Robart bit did you use. I want to be able to control my horse but not hurt him.
Your camping sounds like so much fun. I hope the weather holds for you. After being so beautiful for the last two weeks, we are expecting cold, rain and maybe some snow this weekend...ugh!
Here's a camp fire for you. (hope it loads)
It's a good camp fire! We're trying to decide if we'll set camp tonight or do it in the morning... do we want to spend one night out there or two? ;~D
It's kinder to be soft with a stronger bit than it is to be strong with a bit that's too soft.
If you like the methods your trainer uses for other things, I'd take her word for it on this bit and give it a try. Watch his reactions... if you apply it does he comply or does he fight and throw his head? One thing is, with a curb bit, you don't want to ride on contact with his mouth all the time like you can with a snaffle, you want to ride on a looser rein and apply the bit in pull and release motion as needed.
I'm using one like this on Blade coz he doesn't need much in the way of control...
The guy who trains for me uses this bit on his horse. It looks severe, but it actually isn't because the flat mouthpiece swivels independantly on the shanks so that it always lies flat on the bars of the mouth. I've been thinking of getting one of them myself...
Pony is getting in her face here... p*ssed her off enough to make her get up and run her off...
So now she's up and eating. She's probably just tired. Those kids messing around last night kept everyone from getting a good night's sleep.
