This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
It's sunny here now, and really nice.

This is our group...
A pretty little gaited palomino...poor thing was carrying a LOAD! I'll bet this poor guy was galded beyone belief by the time he got back. I think his buddies tricked him and told him they were going on the wagon ride...
I thought this bay was pretty. He almost looks like a dark buckskin...
That horse is pretty, and I'd definately call his color buckskin! The palomino is pretty too.
I hope to go on a few of the organized rides... I'm with you, they are often full of yahoos, but sometimes they get you into trails I wouldn't know about otherwise, and sometimes the social aspect is fun. It'd be good for ecurbh to see all the types that show up to those things. We have a couple big ones with hundreds of riders. I like poker rides where you draw a card at each checkpoint and there are prizes based on your poker hand at the end. The one I went on last year was our sherrif's posse fundraiser, and I rode sweep, which was fun because I was all offical and got to carry the radio ;~D I didn't find anyone who needed saving.
The poker ride sounds like fun. They do that around here alot, but on motorcycles. My BIL's wife's brother was riding "drag" on this ride and had to help some people who were foolish enough to bring along a greenbroke 22mth old colt. It layed down on them after the first two hills. I hope they didn't try to ride the whole ride. That's just too much to ask of a young one, especially given the terrain we were in. You've just gotta wonder what they were thinking(or not)when they brought him.
Oh, and the other thing I couldn't get over was the number of people riding along talking on cell phones. The young girl on the right in the 1st picture (my friend's granddaughter) talked almost all day long (she's a teenager), but there were lots of others. When I get out on the trail, I like to enjoy the peace and quiet. The last thing in the world I want to do is have somebody calling me on a cell phone. They're nice to have in an emergency, but jeez, give me a break! ;o)
Heh.... ~teenagers~
I'm with you about the cellphones on trail rides. I take one when I'm by myself, but I don't know why. I don't get much signal in the woods. I take it mainly for emergency sakes, and get irratated when it rings and I'm on the horse. I don't like getting calls, I just want to be able to make a call if I have too.
Your rides sound like fun. I want to go on some this year. I'm hoping CS and I can go up to Robbers Cave even if it's just us two, and stay a few days a couple of times this year.
Becky
Hey girls,
I don't like cell phones when I'm out on the trails, either. I do take one for emergencies, though.
I'm taking Winnie to the Lone Star Park Equine Hospital on Thursday, she's getting a neurectomy. The injection didn't work at all so I'm not gonna pussyfoot around trying other things.
The site doesn't hotlink... but we can see the pic by copy pasting your properties above.
That was sent to me by email, to view a gallery. Wonder if it has some kind of protection on.
They have disabled hotlinking... you can see it because it was in your cache.
At least they just disable it. Some sites replace the picture with a nasty message about 'bandwidth theft' which takes just about as much bandwidth to transmit as leaving the picture up would have taken. It really doesn't make sense ;~D
Hey no wonder you liked that appy at the auction......beautiful horse. Was your trip everything you thought it would be? It looks like a nice trail from the picture
IMDb disables hotlinking too.
Hi honey! I wanna come home.
30 minutes. :~D
I'll be stopping at the grocery store on my way home for fettucini, alfredo sauce, some kinda seafood to go in it (shrimps or scallops), and some garlic bread. ;~D
Yes, it was very nice trip...too short of course. At least I escaped that snow and cold. Glad to hear they are starting on your barn. That will be a nice get away for you.
Wow... Seafood fettucini sounds wonderful! You want to go to all that trouble? If you want to, we could have some fettucini at Trospers.... no dishes ;~D
And on your way, are you going to pick up that, nice new horse trailer? Happy Birthday and all you know. Hint-Hint.
Well, frankly, going out ~does~ sound better to me. I enjoy the cooking, but I don't have as much cleanup energy as I used to! ;~D
