*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

The flight was perfect!

It went surprisingly well. Which is better than I had imagined.

:^D

I look forward to being with all these interesting critters. Especially Gidge, the AMAZING T.V watching dog!

Good morning everyone. : )
I am so glad he has started to eat again Becky, Hopefully he is on the road to normality again.
Misty has plumped right up with the new feed we are giving her, the results are pleasing to see, whilst Sugar is looking a little too round! Whilst she is still nursing Thunder I am not going to worry overly much, but I will cut down the quantity as soon as he is weaned.
The colts are playing chase all over the field this morning and having a fine time of it. I really must get out there and take some photos. I am amazed just how fast they can run! We had thunderstorms all last night, so the ground is wet and muddy and I am sure that my horses that were brushed only last weekend will find any chance to roll in mud!
I have noticed that when Smokey gets wet, interesting markings that you dont normally see too well, show up that much more. I will have to take a photo to show you all.
Well we are heading to town to the hospital to see deaconjims Mama, she is back in Intensive care and things are not looking good.
I know this probably sounds awful, but I am praying that she will go to sleep and wake up with the Lord. (I love her so much and can't bear to see her in pain and unable to do anything at all for herself. Her body is shutting down and she is so very tired and weak.) : (
Well, I hope you all have a good day and manage to get out with the horses some and maybe ride. : )

Well, that's better. It does sound like some kind of a stomach problem, did you give him Maalox?

WEll thanks for the well wishes, but 1/2 of one feeding is not much, and he didn't eat last night, so I'm not sure this was all that good of a sign.

Rose: I'm very sorry about your MIL. Will pray for her and your family.

Well, I think eating half is still a good sign.

Good morning everyone!

Anything is better then nothing no doubt. But hey, he had to be hungry, it was getting on towards 36 hours since he had ate.

I've lost many of my family to illness, and I understand your prayer completely. I'll pray for her peace.

Well, when he has done this in the past it was a 4 day event. So he is still within the range of time that is "normal" for one of these episodes.

I'm going to continue the Maalox, and keep an eye on him. I'm considering having bloodwork run again. Maybe if I have it run "during" one of these episodes some thing will show that will give us a line of action. I'll discuss this with Mack today.

I think Horse Jounal had an article on ulcers and stomach problems. I'll see if I can find it, perhaps they can start without showing up in a blood test.

Ulcers are suppose to be very very common in horses, and very difficult to treat, of course, because they are usually caused from the stress of being used and trailered, so I've been told.

The vet that treated him when he coliced last year says there is a medication that can help prevent ulcers, horse prilacec (sp), and she gives it to all her using horses rather they have symptoms or not.

I may give that a whirl with him.
See if it helps. He has been somewhat of a hard keeper. I attritubed that to his other problems....poor guy has had so much go on, it's hard to know what to do for him. If he wasn't so good, I'd have gotten rid of him along time ago.
