This is the first I've heard that he wanted to do this. Interesting. All I've ever heard before was that he was open to the idea. It's a difficult movie to make after LOTR because the tone is completely different. It's much more goofy and childlike.

Ian McKellen is a must for casting. They probably want a Bilbo who looks somewhat like Ian Holm. It'd be nice to get John Rhys-Davies for Gloin, but Ryhs-Davies will never put on the makeup again.
