I hate to see irresponsible or ignorant people with pits because it gives the breed-specific legislation people ammunition. BSL is just a bad idea all around, IMO. But some of the folks with pits who would come into the PETsMART I used to work at are not doing anything to help the image of the breed. I had one guy spend about ten minutes (no kidding) warning me that his pit was 'mean' and 'dangerous' when he dropped the dog off for a bath. I had the option of not taking the dog, but I did anyway. Turns out the dog was a marshmallow who leaned on me begging for ear scratches the whole time I was working on him. The guy acted p*ssed off when he came back and asked me if his dog behaved and I told him what a sweetheart his boy was. There was a couple who were obviously doing something to their pit to make it mean and unsociable, it was growling at people walking by and even lunged at a puppy - we did turn them away, in fact they got escorted from the store. And then, of course, there's the almost daily news stories about people who let their pits roam free in neighborhoods and the bad things that result. That is irresponsible with ANY dog but with a pit it is worse than irresponsible.
i agree it would take some time, but i say people should research in these dogs before they go "awwww look at the cute pitbull" these dog are not regular poodles down the street they need special care, and responsible owners. that what we'reaboutat game-dog, well the smart people. i'll admit there are alot of irrisponsible people, but for the responsible ones we are tryin to save our dogs.
