Originally, Sam Jackson asked Lucas about appearing in the new trilogy. He was such a huge fan of Star Wars that he told Lucas he "didn't give a f---" he'd appear as a Storm Trooper, whatever.
Actually, Jackson was quoted as saying he didn't care if he had to be Anakin's slave, as long as he could be in it. :)
