The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

That's great news - glad to hear it.

btw - are the crabs feeling better? (anyone who comes in from another thread will never figure this one out)

My crabs are still molting. *sigh* I wish they'd finish up with what they're doing and come out to play a bit. I miss them.

But the mass molting means that I've done my job right. Their environment is comfortable enough for them to go into molt in the first place. They can hold off on molting until conditions are just right.

(Oh yeah, someone wandering in from another thread would be downright disgusted by this conversation!)

I'm still leanin' toward drivin' out. I need an excuse to take a couple of weeks off.

I just found out that I'm now in a "use it or lose it" situation with regard to vacation. This really bugs me since I thought I was grandfathered into the "old" company plan where I never would lose vacation. I seem to have lots of it and need to use some of it.

Then you should use it.

Especially if your company "caps" your vacation accruals like mine does.

You accumulate a certain number of hours and then the accrual automatically stops, even though you are still working.

ecurbh and I are having serious doubts about being able to go to shootmoot... I just haven't wanted to say so yet. We really want to see all of you, and also make our side trip to OK to ride with Becky... but we just aren't so sure we can.

First we have the situation with ecurbh's new job. His job is going really well and is a good opportunity for him that we don't want to risk with time off requests... and he won't have a week or two paid vacation to burn yet in June.

Second is the farm sitter situation. After the headache and expense of having to fly in a farm sitter from OHIO for this last trip, it fatigues me to even think about finding animal care for an even longer trip in the near future.

Third is money... we want... no NEED to buy a horse trailer this spring. We NEED to go trail riding this summer, any one of these years might be Bay's last, and we've built all our plans on this hobby that is taking up all our time and money and worry. We'd easily burn up the cash for half that horse trailer in this trip.

So that's our situation. The situation isn't making it ~easy~ to go.

I understand the doubts. It's not a clear decision for me either. I've been going back and forth. I'd like to get together with everyone.

At the same time, I live in a three ring circus. I have to think seriesly about adding any stress factors.

I've got enough frequent flyer miles for the trip. And I've got the time. Although clearing things with Rasputin could be tricksey, especially since I HAVE to be in Kentucky two weeks later for my 25 college reunion. I'm hosting AND I'm VP of the Alumni Board.

On my end, I've got to wait 'til things settle down with Nana before I can discuss this with the Mrs.

Reckon I could find a cayenne-pepper powder flavored suet?

I'm not sure that exists. But my suet feeder is on the end of a shepherd's staff with a "squirrel collar" around it. And I have a small aluminum foil pan bashed around the top of the suet cage. It deters larger birds through intimidation, while small ones don't mind it. I've got nuthatches and downy woodpeckers visiting it regularly.

I'll try to get a picture of the setup posted some time.

Well, you know that I want you both to be at ShootMoot.

That said, I can understand your situation at the same time. Being your friend, I can only hope that everything sort of falls into place and you're able to make it when the time comes.

Prayer has never failed me before, so I'll keep working on this request and see how it pans out.

Worse comes to worse, I'll take another trip later this summer to do the tourist thing in Washington and invade your privacy then! ;-D

Prayers for your attendance at the moot are well under way, Corin.

I figure I don't do much for myself all year, but I'll fight to the finish to get a few days with the Hobbit Holers once a year. If for no other reason than to prove I'm still me and not just a payroll rep, a mommy and a housekeeper/provider.

I'm not writing it off! I've just been having some cold feet.... I probably shouldn't even make a decision right now before I'm even over the last trip ;~D Our outlook might improve in time ;~D

I hated to bring it up, but since you were talkin' shoot moot, it seemed time to at least let you guys know we have obstacles in our way.

I still need to look into the sitcheeayshun with regard to capping of the accrual. The "new" parent company doesn't let vac annual accrual go beyond 4 weeks/yr. Well... I was already *at* five weeks/yr when the buyout happened oh-so-many years ago. At least *that* part got grandfathered in. Seems there is a new rule that caps total accrual at two years' worth.

But now I find that I've got ten weeks on the books, and I'm starting to lose new accrual if I don't take some.

So... I'm taking tomorrow off... to... think about it...

:-)
