See if you can spot it :^)
Same here. I edit video at work on a PC, and at home on a Mac. No comparison. Plus, I don't play games. I have no use for them, so I'm not in the PC's hallowed demographic. I've been a Mac user since 1986.
I'm talking about market share. :)
I have nothing against Macs, I'm just pointing out that the lack of games is one of the big problems Apple will have to address if they ever want to achieve parity of market share with MS systems. People usually buy new computers for work-related purposes, especially these days when you have to have internet access for most modern, non-burgerflipping jobs. However, these computers are often used by the whole family. Shoppers say to themselves, "Why not pay an extra $300 for a nice graphics card and flat-panel monitor upgrade if I have to get a new compy anyway? It will make the kids happy." It should be pointed out that while Macs do have superior processing power in many cases, they have little to no graphics card support, and graphics cards are where most of the hard work is done. A system with a mediocre processor can get great framerates on Doom3 or Halflife 2 with a top-of-the-live graphics card. When a family is forced to choose between a Mac and a Windows PC of similar price, this becomes a big factor.
It should also be pointed out that all of those gaming platforms are way behind the state of the art in hardware compared to desktop gaming systems, or even a homebrew bargain box. The games are far more expensive, up to three times as much, and you can't do anything with them other than play games unless you are an ubernerd and enjoy putting linux on Xboxes just for the heck of it...not that there's anything wrong with that. ;)
Again, let me say that I have nothing against Macs. They are fine machines. Apple just isn't going to gain ground, though, until they do something about this.
Thanks for the info, zeugma. I'm totally and hopelessly computer challenged so will gladly forward your post to my husband who knows what he's doing. ;o)
Your right about market share, however, the ipod is certainly helping out in this area. There are very good graphics cards available for newer macs both G4's and G5's. The G5's come stock with the ATI radeon 9600 XT and have the 9800 XT and the NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL as an option. All of those cards are superb gaming cards.
What are you kidding? I guarantee you there is a higher percentage of Mac users on this forum than in the general public...hands down.

I find that comforting for some reason ;) It's good to know I am not alone.
