The parents were Kerry supporters, but very conservative in some ways, especially my son-in-law.
They will stand behind me on this because they did when there was another incident with this same child.
When she was in kindergarten, yes,KINDERGARTEN,a teacher told them that if you smoke you will die.She left school in tears, telling her mother that Grammy was going to die, since I smoke.
My daughter reamed them, she was so upset, especially to even get into smoking with a 5 year old.
Since this is the case, however, I would search through FR for all those pictures of the little kids with shining eyes in Iraq swarming around our military people, and I'd find those pictures of the laughing people with blue on their fingers, and I'd ask, "Is this about oil?"
Well, my mother told me about the same thing at about the same age. Mind you, while I've never smoked, the anti-smoking crusade is so obnoxious these days that I'm tempted to buy cigarettes.... I might not smoke them, but....
That provides a good example of how my wife and I teach our son. He picked up some of the anti-smoking rhetoric. When he got obnoxious about it, we told him that we don't think smoking is safe. However, adults are and should be free to make their own decisions.
We also pointed out that some people make similar claims about chicken nuggets -- he loves chicken nuggets -- and asked him how he would like it, if chicken nuggets were banned because some people thought they were bad for you or immoral.
