How do you respond to a third grader who is being brainwashed by a very liberal teacher?

My grandaughter, out of the blue last week, said she wished that Kerry was president.

When I asked her why,she really had no response, she's in third grade after all. She then said everyone in her class wished Kerry was president(no surprise there in a very liberal schools system).

She then said that her teacher had told them we were at war in Iraq because Bush wanted the oil. I was stunned.

I then told her that I had voted for Bush and that more people in the USA had wanted Bush for president than had wanted Kerry and that her teacher's view on the war was an opinion, not a fact.

Why on earth would a teacher say things like this to a child who thinks if the teacher said it then it must be true.

My child (born 1994) never knew Bill Clinton's actual name until she was 6 years old. But by the time she was 3 she could recognize him and call out "The President Who Lies All The Time is on TV!" That was his name as far as she was concerned. I take cedit for that

I was proud also when my 10 year old returned from their class field trip to the Capitol bldg and she screamed out to me in the parking lot as i picked her up, Hey Mommy, guess who we saw today? the BUBBALOON's wife!! i almost died laughing!

I must have caught the tail end of "good" public elementary schools when I was a kid. 4 years of it was in Moscow, Idaho and then in the 70's we still said the pledge in the morning, sang along to a patriotic song with the PA system (Grand 'Ole Flag, America the Beautiful, etc...). I had a 3rd grade teacher that would sneak up and bonk kids heads together when they were leaning over talking to each other in class...

I think that you are right about that. The publice schools are absolute cesspools now. I would crawl on my knees and eat out of a dumpster before sending my children to the public school of today.

We get the exact opposite here in CA. Schools are, by law, entitled to an enourmous chunk of the budget (near 50%) with next to no accountability.

If you talk to the teacher or the administration you run the risk of having your gdaughter retaliated against. This happened more than once to my kid in elementary public school. With public schools, sometimes the cure is worse than the disease. These days, the filter for teacher credentialing is such that the teachers are often so liberal that that they do not realize they are biased. A second category of teachers are those who know they are biased and actively exploit the educational system to spread their bias among young impressionable children ("your-taxes-pay-my-salary-and-so-I-have-the-right-and-duty-to-teach-the-students- whatever."). Same goes for administrators (who almost always were teachers at one point in time).

You are right, they can only handle a certain amount of information in 3rd grade.

I'll spoon my ideas out,a little at a time, always explaining, when necessary, that it is my OPINION,not fact. She and I have a wonderful relationship so all should be well.
