Prostitution: one adult pays another adult for sex- is illegal
Pornography: Where one adult pays two adults to have sex and brings a camera, This is legal.
Pornography has been around for over one hundred years, since the time of the camera,
but it has only been the last few decades where it became the money making industry that it is today. And today's pornography is much much worse.
This question came to me after reading this article
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1353029/posts
an excerpt "The Justice Department is appealing the dismissal of an obscenity case in Pittsburgh in which a federal judge said prosecutors went too far in trying to block the sale of pornographic movies over the Internet and through the mail. The case initially was prosecuted under Ashcroft""
Should pornography be illegal?
It's an opinion question, you answer, give your reasons. Is it free speech or not? Why. And where is the line drawn? Has pornography promoted homosexuality and unsafe sex? Or is it a privacy issue?
Should there be standards on pornography?
Concerned Women for America say No- what do you think?
Books - Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Thomas sowell for example. Heck, even Dubya got a book.
Films - I'll admit we are sorely lacking but we've got a good thing going with the conservative film festival and all the pro-war and pro-bush film. And there was the passion and DC 9/11.
T.V. - Fox News, characters like Denny Crane. Granted, we are even worse of here than with movies.
Music - Kid Rock. Country Music. NOt impressive but better than nothing.
Theatre - got me there. One fortunate thing is ppl would rather utilize modern entertainment than traditional theater.
Radio - This is the one area we have major success, thx to El Rushbo. The libs response, Err America, is faltering badly. We've won the radio wars.
Magazines - Soldier of Fortune, Limbaugh Letter. There are probably more but I can't recall of the top of my head. Bcoz mags don't have an overwhelming influence on culture and there are conservative mags lying around, I'd say we are ok on this front.
Papers - Washington times, NY Post, Boston Herald, Wall Street Journal. Not as much as the lib papers, but should be enough that the ppl will know the truth.
Internet - Another major victory for conservatism. 10 leftist websites don't have the power of one conservative blog. FR and blogs like Powerline and LGF are striking it out as alternative sources of info and have far more power than a lefty loon grinding away a Bush-bashing editorial.
Politicians - Reagan, Dubya, Our Founding Fathers, Eisenhower, Coolidge, honorable men like Zell Miller, Tom Tancredo, Ron Paul etc. Whatever the history books say, thes men will always inspire patriotism, respect, and reverence. Xlintoon, Queery, Cartar will belleft behind on the ash heap of history.
Legal System - We've got our own sharks now. ACLJ, FIRE, Thomas More Center etc. Also we've still got conservative and common sense judges like Roy Moore kicking around. We are far from defeated in the court rooms.
Advertising - When the consumers speak, ppl listen. That's why Slim Fast dropped Whoopi cushion and many theaters avoided Fart and Hype 7/11 like the plague. We still have the power of the wallet. And the wallet is speaking louder and loudeer to the corporations.
At first the libs are just as powerless as us, but gradually and bit by bit, they persevered and succeeded in despoiling America. Now they made the same mistake we did in the 60s, they underestimated us, they figure that we could never succeed at overthrowing the status quo. They have become fat and complacent in their socialist successes. They are ripe for the taking.
Back in the 50s, some socialist is probably carping that they will never overthrow America, patriotic and moral Americans have control of everything and the American public will never accept the subversion of the constitution and their perverted agenda.
I can't guarantee final or instantaneous success. But have faith, we can and will turn the tide and restore our nation.
"Matthew 8:26 - And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm."
"but you don't seriously believe the government should of outlaw every vice?"
Only in heaven does such a government exist for now. (One day that which is evil will be banished here too.)
But in the meantime, I surely don't think that government should APPROVE every vice either.
The reason some of her threads get lots of posts,is that some of us are on to her.
And this topic is the much beaten dust of a many times over dead horse.
Have you noticed that once this thread actually did get going,in a scholarly way,she abandoned it?
Pyramid? In China? Aren't you thinking of Indian temple art and perhaps Angkor What?
The ancient Egyptians DID have pornographic papyri rolls. The Japanese made pornographic Netsky (sp?),there are ancient porn books, which are NOT just your run of the mill "how to books",from many different countries/civilizations, which had nothing at all to do with religious totems/rites. And there is a vast difference between nude people in paintings and actual porn.
Actresses have always had bad reputations, because they were always very loose women/whores.There have been live sex shows, for titilation. My information is not in the least "disjointed" (look up the meaning of that word!) and my remark about ancient Egyptian porn was reiterated and substantiated by another poster.
Frankly,it's not my problem that neither you nor Lauralee knows anything much about this topic, but you feel it incumbent upon yourselves to cavil about me ,who does know about it, and the factual posts I've made about the topic.
A few Conservative nonfiction books don't cut it and neither does talk radio,FNC,magazines (SOLDIER OF FORTUNE? You really need to rethink that one...Ward Churchill used to write for that.),etc.! Mass media drowns all of that out and then some.
And nobody recognizes the "Conservative film festival" as even a big toe under the tent.
It's going to take many more years for that pendulum to swing back...we're a far way off, still in the wilderness;sadly.
Well, as long as we keep trying.
..it couldn't hurt.
We have to...but as I've said,it's going to take a while.
Yep. Where there is a will...
Good night. Nice arguing with you. ;P See you later in the battlefields of the culture wars. X)
(I can barely keep my eyes open)
We all do what little we can.:-)
We weren't arguing,just discussing...which was nice.
Pleasant dreams.
The gov't gets tons of money from alcohol taxes, but I don't see it promoting alcohol use.
But seriously, thanks for straightening things up.
What about "art depicting the beauty of two people being physically intimate?"
I dunno... Some of those sites are about as artistic as a bullfighter on black velvet. (And some of the women are almost as attractive as the bull!)
What about the art of depicting a man shooting his load on a woman's face? At what point does beauty overwhelm offensiveness? Never, I say. It's either offensive or it's not, regardless of any beauty or artistry. The subject is what it is, and that's how we should regulate it. The skill of the artist is for the viewer to decide, not for the gov't to measure.
Depends on what they're concerned about ...
"What is ominous is the ease with which some people go from saying that they don't like something to saying that the government should forbid it. When you go down that road, don't expect freedom to survive very long."
-- Thomas Sowell
Wow. Thanks Dad!
Can I play ball until the street lights come on? Huh?
What's with you rushing to this "chick's" defense all the time...it's kinda creepy!
