Fibromyalgia - Can someone explain to me what I did wrong?
2-25-2005 | Just Kimberly

Posted on 02/25/2005 11:45:15 PM PST by Just Kimberly

I just posted a question a few moments ago regarding FMS, and wondered if anyone else here suffered with it. I went back to see I had 7 replies and 80 something plus views, clicked on it, and recieved a message it had been pulled due to 'commercial spam'. Now, I am VERY new here, and really love this place, and I sincerely apologize - but I do not know what I did wrong. I know we are able to post our opinions and questions - which is why I went to opinions/vanity. I mentioned collecting research for my website, and talked about how lonely this condition can be. I posted a message from a friend of mine which I had saved from 2002, telling her story, along with mine and my hope for natural cures - then it was gone.

I in NO way want to be in trouble here - as I finally felt I was in a place where I could be me. Will someone please tell me what I did wromg? Thank you.

Dearest Mountaineer, As you know, I am new here and learning the ropes in a more than educational way.

Your comment:
"This website was set up to discuss politics, culture and conservativism. How does fibromyalgia - and touting your own website - fit into that mix?"

In contemplating your question, I reviewed the list of forums on this board, checking all the topics contained within each.

At Bloggers and Personal - we have sub topics such as - Poetry, Health, Arts, and UFO's, to name a few.

At General Chat - we have Chit'Chat, Arts, Agriculture, Education, and Food, just to name a few.

At GOP - it is obviously dedicated to politics and sub topics there of - broken down also by each State.

At News/Activism - we have Crime, Miscellaneous (a place to put what doesn't fit elsewhere), along with Your Opinion/Questions = vanity, just to name a few.

At Religion - we have Prayer, Ministry-Outreach, Worship, with subtopics of Denominations, just to name a few.

The Smokey Back Room consists of heated discussions, VetsOp is obviously for opinions of veterans, and the RLC is obviously political view points and conservative opinions.

Now, my question to you would be - how do I NOT fit into the mix? The FMS discussion began as a question - wondering if anyone else here deals with it. The connection to my site was with ONLY good intentions to share info, but I have realized the error of my ways - and that issue shall not be repeated. Further, since in our profile we are allowed to include our websites, they are listed there, anyway, if anyone chooses to view them. The only time I shall 'url' myself in the future is if I am in Bloggers, and am posting a piece from my journal - which is allowed.

In answering the current discussion "Fibromyalgia - What did I do wrong" - my question was answered, and many members have pointed me to archived threads here at FR when this topic has been brought up before, directing me to insightful articles and thoughts I would not have known about.

So, again, please tell me - How does my position and question NOT fit in here? Health and illnesses are a part of this culture. The quality of our food supply affects this culture in many ways - from the health of our children, to issues regarding health insurance, disibility,Social Security and Medicare. If Americans can stay healthy, resolve chronic illnesses, then perhaps the structure of social programs would not be as taxed as they are, and certain programs would not be in danger.

EVERYONE has a right to know the truth about what is really going on in this country. I thought THAT was what this site was all about - getting the TRUTH to the people.

LOL, fist of all, it is a syndrome, not a disease.

There is not a truth that is suppressed or hidden in any way.

Like any syndrome there are treatments that seem to help. That is what doctors do.

But since it is a syndrome, there is no cure, no cause, no medical answers.

Those that find answers for the syndrome find something to treat medically.

As it is, most can only treat the syndrome with pain relievers in order to deal with it.

It does not cause damage to tissue, muscles or nerves, and is not something that cannot be dealt with in any number of ways.

There are plenty of places to go on the net for groups of people who share some difficulty in common.

You will not find that here. Unless you you have the "I despise Democrats syndrome".

We can help you with that.

You know, after reading your profile, I honestly do not know how to respond to you, other than to say I am truly suprised at the hatred in your words. Being a veteran, I would have thought you would have a little more tolerance for a fellow conservative Republican, who ultimately has the same goals for this country as yourself, when it comes to items of a more personal nature.

I became a Republican after being raised in a strictly Democratic household. My father was a Union Steward for the Manufacturing company he worked for, retiring in 2000. He would begin heated debates as I grew older, and vehemently deny the Republican party - blaming them for every job any American ever lost. The original factory he worked for was located in Kentucky. They shut down in the early 80's, moving operations to another state, and did not take any KY employees with them. For about 10 years, Dad did what ever it took to keep food on the table, and not lose the house. Like many, he sold everything 'non' essential, and took any job he could, often working 3 jobs at a time. 2 jobs during the week days and a third on the weekend.

In 1986, the company called back many of the employees they had 'dumped' earlier, and offered them positions at the new company. He and mom never hesitated - they picked up and moved 4 hours away so that he could put his life back in order and prepare for his future retirment. He worked hard. Had a heart attack in 1994, but went back to light duty as quickly as he could. Extremely dedicated man.

When my parents learned of my Republican choice - they were outraged. My answer to them was that I could NEVER support a party who was for abortion, homosexuality, and the underminig of core family values. "The democrats are not just about jobs, anymore, dad", I told him.

As a Christian, I decided to stand with a party that honestly took family values to heart. A party that cared about defending this country, who showed respect for men and women in uniform returning from war - unlike the pitiful displays after Vietnam. What you guys went through makes me sick to my stomach. I would NEVER belittle any of you. I decided to stand with a party who held life to be sacred, Marriage to be sacred, and who honestly believed in upholding the Constitution by not allowing liberal Judges to wipe out everything our forefathers worked so hard for.

As the mother of a Firefighter, and a future Army Ranger (his dream), I support President Bush and every move he makes to defend this country. My support for the military and everyday American heroes could not be deeper.

That is why I call myself a Republican. Because I believe in Christian love - regardless of the denomination. I believe in God and our only guide book - the Bible. I believe Americans need to be in charge of their own lives, with as little interference from the government as possible. We need rules, but not to the point of near imprisonment in our own homes.

When I found this site (thanks to Govenor Huckabee of Arkansas - an interview on C-span), I was elated! It felt wonderful to read the words of Jim Robinson on the front page of the site - knowing I was coming to a place that held my beliefs as dear as I do.

"We are conservative activists dedicated to defending our rights, defending our constitution, defending our republic and defending our traditional American way of life."

This is written on the home page of this site. Our traditional American way of life is one of caring for our neighbor. For helping those in need - not with more government programs, but with true, honest American love and caring. The kind of decency shown after 9/11. The kind of decency shown when a neighbor's house burns down, or a friend's family member dies of cancer. That is what I believe to be a part of the 'American way of lfe'.

When someone here, in this family of conservative Republicans has a need, what ever it may be - is it not part of our heritage and value system to help them?

You wrote, "There are plenty of places to go on the net for groups of people who share some difficulty in common.

You will not find that here."

Why? If we, as conservative Republicans are here together - for a common goal, then why not a common difficulty? Is it not an American ideal to help those in need? What about the Tsunami relief efforts? The Hurricane victims last summer? Do the conservative Republicans in those disasters not deserve to be helped? I could just as easily have posed a question - "Are there any familes here who were touched by the Tsunami or Hurricanes?" Would your reply to me have been the same?

The more I read here, the more I see - there are some wonderful people who belong to this place. I have already been in contact with Freepers in California, as they gear up for the big Rally tomorrow in Hollywood. My prayers are with them. I pray and petition for Terri Schiavo and her families fight for her to stay alive.

There ARE many truths hidden from us. There are many things the government agencies do not communicate to each other, let alone to us. Our food supply is horrid. Chemicals and pesticides and hormones are rampant in everything we put in our bodies. Mounting stress from overworked families struggling to make ends meet add to the deterioration of America's health. If we do not support each other, who will?

To conclude sir, You can see I am not debating the facts of FMS. I have my research for that. My debate is the lack of concern for others. The Republican party is a lot like the Church. Without people in it, there is no party, as without people in church, it is just a building.

If we do not seek to educate and guide Americans to the TRUTH, who will take our place in the future? If we do not stand unified as a group now, seeking to gain more into the party, and support one another on EVERY issue ( agreeing to disagree will occur, but support and respect should still be present) - Who will be here to guide the Republican party in 10 years? 20? Who will lead when we are gone? Without education - it is a scary thought. Thank you for taking time to read my response. God Bless, Kimberly

LOL!

My reply had nothing to do with hate, dislike or even irritation.

Nothing to do with mothers, firefighters or the military.

Nothing to do with anything but what we do on this forum. (or should do)

This is a political forum. We have activism for political and social things, but not advocacy groups for disorders, be they medical, phychological or dog lovers, bird sanctuaries or cat farms.

We have a few members with interests such as Horses, pets in general, and things of that nature to share info and lighten things up, but your topic does not fit in this area.

You are a newbie, and generally newbies read, watch listen and begin participating with replies.

Should you find a good article on your condition, you can post it to forum areas that we have for general interest stuff.

But you can't advocate here. Or use us to spread Internet chatter or your personal opinions as a topic post.

BTW, your reply indicates immaturity, or overreaction emotionally, or self induced victim beliefs. Maybe you should have that looked into. It could be related to your syndrome.

I have seen people talk about just about EVERYTHING on FR, and as long as it has been in the right section of the forum, it was OK....

I am on pinglists for science discussions, archaeology discussions, prayers, various political subtopics, and two for dealing with trolls.

Why should the discussion of fibromyalgia be an acceptable topic when all sorts of other medical discussions take place?

It is acceptable when a post is legit and not an advocacy vanity hawking a web site or opinion.

That is why her post was yanked.

She still does not get it after a dozen different explanations.

Methinks she just wants someone to hold her hand.

We don't do that here. Kinda hard to.

I did state that a properly sourced post in general interest or whatever is acceptable. That is not what she wants to do.

It is considered bad form to spam a blog or website...I have joined in the paving of that before, myself...as a member in good standing of the RKBA...but I didn't know that hawking an opinion was by itself a grievious offense...perhaps it's the way she presented it that was the offense. Didn't see the yanked post myself.

I came across it.

A newbie vanity with what appeared to be a personal site. I did not check it out.

The topic, I have little interest in, but it is a legit syndrome according to JAMA and WEBMD.

Sourced articles from legit sources are always, well most of the time, welcome here when they fit the copyright requirements and are no on the prohibited list due to law suit threats.

Opinion vanities, not in the form of a essay or from newbies are alway suspect and the suspicions are usually correct.

She needs to read a while, get the hang of the place and rules, and then try again with a legit post.

Perhaps replies are the best way to go, on a medical thread related to the topic.

That is what most of us do.

It's always best to read and learn before posting...and to start by replies...although I post threads on the religious topics a lot, I am careful to check out everything necessary before posting a news story. It's a good rule of thumb when joining any new forum.

A friend of mine takes Paxil in the morning and Elavil at night. It worked for her. She researched it and took the research to her doctor and he let her try this drug combo. I talked to my doctor and a nurse about it and they said Oh no you should never take those two drugs together. Well, it has worked for Jeannie for YEARS!

My son used to take imipramine at night - for bedwetting and Ritalin then later Cylert by day for attention deficit. It helped. I have had "experts" tell me you can't take both of those drugs. Well, it worked in this house.
